Hi guys,

Well Ive found a Skyline " About bloody time a few of you are saying"

Its a 1996 GTS-T SII M-Spec Manual 2 door with a few mods and about 85'ooo on the clock

The only thing is this..

1. The front bumper was damaged when the guy drove up his driveway one day.. now he has replaced it however it still needs to be repainted.. "Silver" - Anyone know roughly how much that would cost me? I can post pics if you request

2. Now this is a big one.. The guy has told me "been very honest I have 2 admit" that when the car gets upto 80kmph on the road it gets a shocking vibration go threw it.. He also said that it happens at about 60kmph if he is going up a hill.

Now to the best of my knowledge and from what he has said it hasnt been in a car accident at all. " could have overseas who knows"

He said he got quoted at about $200 ish to fix it.. and that it could be as simple as getting the tires re balanced.. " Would that affect it if it was going up a hill?" hmm..

Anyway I really want this car becuase the price is great and im going crazy wishing I had one..

You guys have always been a wealth of knowledge and now I need some help..

PS: Whats the cheapest Car inspection around perth .. Onsite. RAC told me $265 !!! because im a non member and $235 if I was.. thats a fair bit.. SGIO dont do it anymore aswell.

Cheers!!

- ADAM

OK, vibrations in steering wheel could be many things:

1) Tyres balanced and wheel alignment may fix it

2) the rack end or tie rod end may need replacing, thats what is causing it in my old Aus spec Skyline.

Paint - depends who you know, anywhere from $200 to $400ish and yes, the price can double. Panel and paint prises differ greatly so shop around!

Hums....

So Im looking at a possible $400 max for painting..

" rack end or tie rod end may need replacing " anyone got any ideas on how much this would set me back??

* Im going 2 ask the guy to know the price down for these things..

Q? does it have mags if so try fitting a set of std wheels and see if vibration goes away if so you need a set of alligners for the mags ( lil plastic/ alloy things that make the mag centre fit the hub)

Yeah its got mags, will look into that. I havent got the car yet because of this problem.. Its keeping me up at night wondering if I should get it or not..

I think after I get a check all should be good. ThanX

Vibrations can be caused by many different factors, most of the time being unbalanced wheels but vibrations can be caused by things such as an unbalanced tailshaft, gearbox problems and diff problems (it would vibrate heavily at all speeds so i doubt it would be that one). You can hope that its just tyres but it could be many things as well. Also do you know if the vibration only occured while accelerating or under all driving conditions?

if its got mag wheels id definetly look at the alignment balance thing , my cheap mags have a bit of vibration no problems with the stock ones , ill have to look into the alligners thing . The vibration will be at different speeds depending on the geometry of the car , up a hill , coming off an onramp etc . but mine isnt to bad and "shocking" makes me a bit weary . take it to a tyre/suspension place , get them to balance/align the wheels and see what its like after .

$250-400 for the front bar .

rac are totally useless , you might as well set the cash on fire . Take it a reputable workshop that knows skylines it wont be much more and they know what they are doing . theres a huge thread right here in workshops so take your pick from there .

* UPDATE

I went for a drive in the car yesterday and the vibration isnt as bad as I expected.. infact it is drivable " Geshh its quick.... only slight mods aswell!! .. more on that later"

The car drives like normal from 0 - 80km but after that it has a vibration go threw the entire car, its not a huge vibration but you can feel it. I dont think its the wheels.. Ive got a feeling its the UV joints.. well regardless I have booked it in for a full check over next friday with Ken at Hyperdrive. $180 is great value for someone who is experienced in Jap cars. Thanx go out to all you people who made me change my mind from a dodge RAC check.

The next thing on the list is this:

Its a 1996 GTST SII M-SPEC and have a look at the replacement front bumper he has put on it!! He put it on after the last one got damaged on his driveway.. Looks like a series one I thought..

well its certainly NOT a series 2.

At most it could be a Series 1.5. Looks like a Series 1 to me though.

What does the interior look like?

The bonnet/grill/headlights are all Series 1 (or 1.5) spec.

agreed get the VIN number and get someone to plug it into FAST to find out the build date., but unless he changed the bonnet/grill/headlights its definatly not a 96.

Did they still make SI in 1996?

Its go something writen under the bonet aswell about SRS airbag, the dash looked like SII but im not 100% sure, those photos arent the best sorry.

Ken at Hyperdrive should be able to tell as soon as he looks at it next week I hope.

UV joints or CV joints you mean on that vibration?? cause CVs aren't cheap last time i checked. But it happens after 80kms could be a range of things definitely take it to a wheel align place aswell to balance test the wheel i don't think Hyperdrive can do that.
