Hi Keith (sorry, been offline for a while)

My race GTR will be a while still - probably late in the year.

Talking to Keir recently after his first runs on slicks & he was having problems

with tyre diameter differences due to growth during the run.

As there are only a handful of guys in the world pushing into low times it really

becomes a case of trial & error - just keep testing.

My suggestion would be try a set of radial tyres first (just to get some full passes

done & get some baseline runs) then put the slicks back on with a reduced tune

& creep up on it till you are used to steering it the whole length of the track under

full power - I am sure all of the fast Jap teams have done hundreds of runs in testing

before they found the best combination for each car.

From what I have seen the R32 is the least stable of the breed - so have fun!!!

I love Scotland (haven't been since 2000), wish I was there & you had a passenger

seat in it - would love to go for a few test runs with you........

We took the slicks off and put on a set of street radial tyres

the car was just as bad.

I think the car is sitting a bit to high and when it is on full power we

are getting bump steer at the back end.

the car is fitted with HKS drag dampers with 5K springs on the front

and 4K on the rear.

we also have 1 degree + camber on the rear with 1 degree toe in

on all 4 wheels.

I am going to try dropping the car down a bit then set all the angles

again then give it a try.

With a 1.5 way front diff, you might just need to back off the front bias once you get past 2nd gear ( I know things are a bit busy about then) but the torque steer is the problem & no way around it with that much power. i am a bit out of touch 'cause I haven't run my race GTR for nearly 2 years, but I remember crossing the traps at 153 mph with a 1/4 turn of steering lock to keep it straight so I understand the problem.

i am looking at going to slicks with my new setup, so will probably face the same problem.

All I can suggest is put more power to the rear & steer the thing at the traps the best you can. Welcome to fast GTRs.  Never seen a really fast run that wasn't all over the track!!!

The HKS team told me to stiffen up the rear suspension & keep the car as flat as you can.

They have much less weight to deal with then us (mine around 1270 kg), so direction changes not as hard to deal with. Smoother gear changes will also help keep it straighter.

Easier said then done I know!!!

Keep up the good work, ultimately it's the testing that will give you the best results.

We are only just starting out.

I have an hks etc with drag adaptor, with this unit you can set it up to automatically reduce bias to front after a set distance.

Even the HKS race team told us they didnt know how to properly set up the etc & drag adapter!! We asked them & they just shook their heads & the translation was something

like " ahh.. we tried that but it not work for us... mainly for street car...so sorry"

My car has an Apexi Manual hydraulic setup (like a big handbrake) we can adjust the settings then I can release it during the run - havent really get it set up correctly yet.

Keith - have you tested again since?

maybe try a set of firmer rear springs... i was going to get the hks drag suspension also but have not worried as we ran 9.77 at 145 mph on street tyres and it went down the track straight as... got the usual gear front lsd and a really tight rear lsd.. and fairly stiff gab coilovers...

but it may be different with your car being about 200kgs lighter.... dont know..

Keith, didn't you used to have a twin 2835 set up that ran a best of 9.95 a couple of years back?

Yes that was me,the car had a HKS 6sp dogbox then and had a pair of 2835

turbos running at 2 bar boost 750/800 bhp,on full road tyres.

the car now has about 250/300 bhp more than before and is now about 1200 kg

Judd you forgot to add the pfitzner box that the black Lancer broke aswell

no i didnt, at first i was told it was the gearbox but apparently it was a drive shaft which spilt oil over the track.so the pfitzner lives on...great box from what I have heard/seen soo far :D will wait and see.

keith, what box are you using now?

Anyone every thought to use an auto box?

i have but finding a 4wd auto box is another story, and someone to build it.

it was going to cost ~$4-5k any way, so decided it was either a os cross mission or pfitzner...and after speaking to Simon @ PPGearbox, my mind was pretty set.

looking forward to giving there box a try.
