One of my mates is trying to get a 300ZX complied but has been told that unless it's 15 years old, the car will have to be re-imported or destroyed. I don't know the complexities of it, but he needs to know the month and year the car was made. Since it hasn't passed compliance there is no plate on it.

Is there a way to tell the build date? I've heard of people using the Nissan FAST software, would it be possible to find the build date using this software? If so, PLEASE PM ME and i will give you the details needed. Otherwise, any other help would be GREATLY appreciated! Cheers guys, hope someone can help out.

The build month would have needed to be confirmed in order for the car to be granted import approval under the 15 year rule. If your friend has gone ahead and imported the car before import approval was obtained then hes in a spot of bother.

Sounds fishy to me

It sounds a bit suss to me too, as my mate is buying it off a private seller who imported it himself. Anyhow, i will get the VIN number and see how things go. Luckily he's under no obligation to buy the car should things not work out. Cheers guys and gals.

This is correct, if he was importing it under the 15 year rule, then he should have an import approval and he'll be right. If he doesn't have an import approval and the government knows his car is here it will have to be crushed or sent back to Japan. My brother's first import (an 87 Soarer) came in before the import approval arrived, but the authorities didn't know it was here, fortunately the approval came the next day and everything worked out fine. I think this is why Prestige now wait for approval before shipping rather than just assuming it will arrive before the car does.
