so does the engine still run? does it make funny sounds? I reckon you would have spun a bearing if that sort of problem happened at 8000rpm. A 33 i sold had fluctuating oil pressure after the guy bought it and it ended up being the oil pressure sender was failing so that dash was telling a different story from what was actually happening.

Errr - I didnt get to see the oil pressure on mine prior but the word is the screws loosed and the bearings farked (big End). I found out afterwards the previous owner was getting eratic oil pressure readings and was advised the gage was d!cky. Now I'm looking at a full rebuild of my 32 GTR

im sick of hearing that its loose backing plate screws that cause the oil pump problems ITS NOT, i've heard it 8 times this week!!! Its the undersized crank drive on r32 that is the cause. The drive is not wide enough it causes vibrations which wear down the internal gears of the pump(fluctuating oil pressures) and AS A RESULT cause the screws to vibrate loose. Everyone with a r32 should invest in a $240 collett from jun to save them a rebuild!!!!

im snapping one of these up , can you get the from the Jun site is there suppliers in sydney that sell the collett ?

Well, you are right, but the backing plate screws coming out is not wrong :(

I couldn't support your view more in terms of a crank collar, or even R33 crank. Its not worth losing your engine over, I was lucky with mine still got the engine...

oh the screws and backing plate do come loose no arguement but its a result from vibration casued by the small crank drive, not that they just come loose for some reason and this causes the oil pressure problems!!!

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility   
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
