hi everyone,

I've got a question or two or three about the R34 kits..

I was checking out some cars and noticed the 2 different front ends on the R34's...both factory.

The first pic is the common one that most seem to have, and then the 2nd and 3rd pics is this other one, which I really like the styling of.

Does anyone know more details, like, was it definately a factory option thing, and did it have a name, and was there any others? I've noticed that there are some side skirts and a more aggressive rear too, so i guess you could pick them to go along with it if you wanted?

The bottom ones are known as Nissan Aero or Nissan Sports. That's what I have.

I've seen them referred to as a Nismo kit but I don't think that's right. I know that whenever that is said it seems to come with the big ugly wang that bolts into the rear quarters. YOU DON'T WANT THAT ONE!

There is a slight variation I've seen a couple of times where that black bit in the middle down the bottom (where it says Skyline) is the same colour as the rest of the car and the vents on the side of the front bar are different but those vents look much worse I think.

Abo is spot on.

The top one is Standard (Series 1) and the bottom two are Nissan Sports.

It's also what I have.

I have the standard rear bar, and Nissan Sports front bar, Adz has the Nissan Sports rear bar and skirts too.

thanks guys, that's exactly what i wanted to know :)

adam, i know the nismo kit with the wing...and you're right I DEFINATELY DON'T WANT THAT ONE!! worst wing ever..

That black bit at the front with Skyline written on it, what's it made of?? It looks like rubber..

The whole front bar is made of black plastic (most cars are these days) and that middle bit is just not painted is all.

You could paint it if you wanted and I think I've seen a few that are but I don't know if that is factory paint or not. I could have had mine done recently when I had the respray but I just left it the way it was. There are plenty of other black bits on the car for it to go with no matter what the actual colour of the car is.

I hate the wing. When I bought my car, I asked the seller to replace the wing to the standard one :argue:. So now I have this Nissan Sports/Aero front bar, rear bar (my car is black so the 'SKYLINE' letters, which have the same colour, are not in contrast), and skirts, but with the standard R34 GT-T wing, and for me it is much better and looks cool :P, even I don't like bodykits very much.

Mine is like the first pic, personally I prefer it over the other sort, looks more aggresive. I also prefer having the chrome Skyline badging, rather then the indented wording. Although I do prefer the indicators inside the inner hotplates style of rear end, but ah well :(

yep, Altia kit.... and unfortunaltey my car had/has the ugly wang... i've semi-dismantled it (removed side bits) but left some nasty holes which are going to cost $ to fix....

piccies..

http://users.bigpond.net.au/chinny/pict0560.jpg - i think pic rang from 541 - 562 if you wanna change the link, and see the rest of the pics. Got pics of the car straight from the back, one with side bits and one without.

    • Huh, wonder why it blew then. I never really beat on the car THAT hard lol I dailyed it and the turbo blew after 6 months
    • That's odd, it works fine here. Try loading it on a different device or browser? It's Jack Phillips JDM, a Skyline wrecker in Victoria. Not the cheapest, but I have found them helpful to find obscure parts in AU. https://jpjdm.com/shop/index.php
    • Yeah. I second all of the above. The only way to see that sort of voltage is if something is generating it as a side effect of being f**ked up. The other thing you could do would be to put a load onto that 30V terminal, something like a brakelamp globe. See if it pulls the voltage away comepletely or if some or all of it stays there while loaded. Will give you something of an idea about how much danger it could cause.
    • I would say, you've got one hell of an underlying issue there. You're saying, coils were fully unplugged, and the fuse to that circuit was unplugged, and you measured 30v? Either something is giving you some WILD EMI, and that's an induced voltage, OR something is managing to backfeed, AND that something has problems. It could be something like the ECU if it takes power from there, and also gets power from another source IF there's an internal issue in the ECU. The way to check would be pull that fuse, unplug the coils, and then probe the ECU pins. However it could be something else doing it. Additionally, if it is something wired in, and that something is pulsing, IE a PWM circuit and it's an inductive load and doesnt have proper flyback protection, that would also do it. A possibility would be if you have something like a PWM fuel pump, it might be giving flyback voltages (dangerous to stuff!). I'd put the circuit back into its "broken" state, confirm the weird voltage is back, and then one by one unplug devices until that voltage disappears. That's a quick way to find an associated device. Otherwise I'd need to look at the wiring diagrams, and then understand any electrical mods done.   But you really should not be seeing the above issue, and really, it's indicating something is failing, and possibly why the fuse blew to begin with.
