Importing non-Jap car

Things have changed and now the missus is talking about coming to Australia to live. It's put a dent in my dream to own a Dodge Viper.... or is it?

I remember that there is a import law which allows you to bring ANY car into the country, provided you lived overseas and owned the car for more than a year... something like that.

Is that still the case or is it baloney crap? :confused:

Cause I was thinking, buy the car and put the car under her name, then bring it here when she comes over and we get married.

I have done this although mine came under the 15 year rule but came with me when I emigrated. Let me know if you need any advice although mine was from the UK and not the US.
