well being stuck (for now) :( with an automatic chevy cavalier...

and driving it ghetto manual, I do drive it with 2 feet...

brake pedal really higherm thAN gAS so when I brake and "downshift" I brake with left and Blip the gas (usuallY) in between auto gear shifts, about a .5 sec window...

It's lame I know, but it's the only way for me to enjoy driving automatic...

I try not doing it, bit I find it's just a bore driving auto..

I do it when driving an auto, but I just wanted to learn how to brake smoothly with my left foot, just incase I get that F1 test drive...

It is something worth knowing, but as for any real benefit, well I would say no.

I drive left foot brake in my autos. Allows a faster, smoother rolloff from the lights is about all. Got the habit racing karts. Practice somewheres safe and you'll pick it uo easy.

Had a talk with my friend and his saying that driving with 2 feets give u better response in braking and is more professional. I said...yer what ever lol. What do u guys think of this?

i remember in initial d the guy in the mr2 does it apparently to prevent understeer?

Left foot braking does gain a fraction of a second, over traditional right foot braking. It's only a split second, the time your right foot has to lift off the throttle, and apply to the brake.

When the car in understeering, the front wheels lose traction. Therefore by braking at the same time on the throttle, you are shifting weight to the front wheels. Therefore grip is added and understeer goes away.

my old man use to drive with both feet a habit he couldn't break after driving manual most his life in the old country , but it if you think about its better when it comes down to an emergency situation .Your foot would only be inches away from breaking the other way your foot would loose time leaving from the accelerator to find the break . the time lost would only be a mili second and wouldn't really matter to much in the end. I guess it would probably just improve your reaction.

I've seen a case where BOTH feet headed for the floor in an emergency, and the GO pedal managed to override the WHOA pedal - result = bent chain wire fence!

My main gripe with left foot brakers is that they rest their foot on the pedal and manage to light up the brake lights - then you never know when they are actually slowing / stopping.

The only time I left foot brake in an auto is parking the car, otherwise I drive as the good son of rajab intended - RIGHT foot is for braking. If you need to use the "left foot hovering over the brake pedal for faster braking reaction time" excuse, then you are obviously travelling TOO CLOSE to the car in front.

I've seen a case where BOTH feet headed for the floor in an emergency, and the GO pedal managed to override the WHOA pedal - result = bent chain wire fence!

not good , yeah i can see it happening personally im with you i go right foot breaking when auto driving , otherwise just feels heaps unco . :freak:

I did it sometimes when i was driving my brothers car for a while, because i wanted to blow it up (but it wouldn't comply :P) .. also fun for company cars.. Grinds the brakes to crappery though :(

Mainly was just fun entering the corners under brakes and then powering out. Seemed to lose a little less revs that way as you could accelerate whilst braking. Your left foot is always way too muncy though, and tends to lock things up pretty easily.

Again, only do this if you have absolutely no respect for the car.

Left foot braking is a skill that should be taught to all L plate drivers whether they drive auto or manual!! If you drive an auto it should be mandatory! Yes it cuts your reaction time, not by much admittedly, but how much do you need to miss an accident by? I suggest a couple of inches will do the trick! As far as balancing front drives and even 4wd in the wet it can save you from plough understeer and it gives you much better control once mastered over the brake pedal. If someone is so uncoordinated that they jump on both pedals at the same time in an emergency it's probably best that they don't drive at all! Like all driving skills such as double de-clutching, heal and toe, threshold braking, opposite lock and throttle control it is a skill worth cultivating, full stop. It has no down side.

I always LFB when driving an auto and sometimes when giving a manual I dont like a bit :( great practice for the track, it feel sooooo wierd at first, you just need to train your foot to work smoothly....left foot is used to slamming clutch up and down, not braking smoothly

ive been left foot brakin since i was 17 cause i used to drive an XF and idle was really shitty so i had to do it to keep the revs up. havent stopped since especially now that i drive manual cause my left foot needs to be doing something. im quite proud that i can brake smoothly with my left foot but ii find it bloody unco braking with the right foot driving an auto which is wierd cause thats what you noramally do in a manual anyways....strange.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance 
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened. 
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
