OK the engine will be an easy swap, the RB25DE NEO will drop straight in. As for ECU side of things I'd recommend using a PFC for an R33...and just splice the wires on the R33 harness to the R34 sensors...retain the R33 ignition setup. The R34 DE ECU = crap

Bolt on turbo, manifold, I/C etc etc and you'll have it done for less than 5K easy

I've got the wiring diagrams for both R33 and R34 so that may help you if you decide to go with it.

im buying a rb25det neo6 though...

And it's billion sensors LOL Paully was just saying about the RB25DE Neo as that was what I turbo-charged.

Leigh your best bet may actually be to ditch the R34 ECU and do as I mentioned up a few threads, connect an R33 PFC to the existing harness and just splice the basic sensors for running the engine.

This gets rid of the issues you'll face with the R34 ECU wanting inputs from the turbo pressure sensor, traction control, and a few of the other features that the R33 doesn't have. All of these missing items result in the check engine light coming on, and extremely reduced performance from the engine.

as eug said a gearbox and thats around 2 - 3 grand LOL

then theres the installation and that aint cheap mate so basically the engine , gear box, good brakes good suspension and fuel pump will set u back 10grand already if u get suspension , fuel pump and brakes 2nd hand then u'll still be looking at 9grand or so, and then installation of the engine and the complicated wiring the r34 contains will set u back a shit load more.

$7k is all you need. Here's the break down of the cost (from experience).

RB25DET NEO front cut (auto) - $4k + freight (usually about $500 depending on where from and where to).

Installation from a professional - $2k

Wiring - $550 from QuickFit Motorsport (they will take both looms, and modify one of them to suit your car, then send both back to you so all you have to do is plug and play)

Blue slip and re-rego - $1k

All up it cost me about 7k, professionally done. Mind you this was a RB25DET Neo from a Stagea (not and R34 so cheaper), and the transplant was into an R34.

Only dramas were the pickup on the sump. The Stagea has a 4WD gearbox, therefor I had to use my existing sump to bolt up, meaning that my sump had to be modified to clear the pickup on the Stagea engine. Holes also needed to be cut in the passenger side of the engine bay for the IC piping to go through.

Bit of luck you can flog off some of the parts you don't need to recover some of the cost.

I've done it, and have not regretted the cost.

lol ruff estimate i included bigger and better brakes and suspension in that guess, yeah auto's are cheaper, geez 7grand thats pretty cheap, did u need put in new fuel pump and injectors, bigger brakes and better suspension later?

wats the difference between the stagea rb25det and the gtt rb25det? is there any difference at all?

whats the price of a manual rb25d from a stagea

i believe the difference is only in the 4wd (altessa system?) as brett said above sump needs

to be modified if u take one from the stagea.

i am not sure about the s1 stagea, but teh s2 has a neo6. a simpler way cud be to source

it would be but would it be worth the extra 2 grand (R34 front cut $6k, Stagea front cut 4k)?? also R34 front cuts are almost impossible to find. I spent months looking for one, and took the easier option.

DaGr81: No need to upgrade the suspension and brakes when doing the conversion, as the R34 stuff is satisfactory to get the swap engineered. Also don't bother with a manual Stagea cut as most of the Stageas produced are automatic, meaning finding a manual Stagea cut would be even harder than finding a manual R34 cut.

No upgrades to fueling or handling yet. The only thing a bit weird about the conversion is the fact that I used the Stagea ECU, meaning that the ECU retards the timing when it "thinks" the auto is about to change gears. It should go harder with the FMIC coming, and I might get a PFC later.

ok if u are fine driving an auto. but as alot of drivers out there prefer a manual transmission.

a little more friendly.

Yep so do I. Bolt the R34 sump onto the Stagea engine, and the manual R34 box bolts straight up. Thats what I did. :D

yeah hks34r... but leigh got a s1 gts and i aint too sure if it can cope, IMO id rather have good breaks and suspension, becoz with the extra power, who knows :D

Yep, agree fully. No good having all that power and not being able to stop in time.

I'm just coming from a budget point of view. Chances are if you buy bigger brakes etc before the conversion is complete and roadworthy, something WILL go wrong and you will need that money that you have already spent. There's nothing worse than having your car off the road while you save up to finish the conversion. Trust me :Oops:

    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
    • Stock O2 sensors are narrowband. They're useless once you're away from stoich. IE, useless for what you're trying to do. 10:1 will read the same as 14:1 from the stock O2 sensors. That is, they'll read rich. The same level of rich.
    • I agree once misfires happen it's basically worthless, but the hope is you can see what's happening in the run up to that. 
    • You should totally get a Brumby, and then come pick up the Subaru Liberty GTB I have here. EJ25 Turbo, 6 speed manual from the sti (just no dccd), and the good rear diff. Drop all that into a Brumby and go have fun!
