Drifting is fun but as there is no real speed involved plus in the correct enviroment( ie. not on the street) is safe as.

so gonig around a corner @ 150+ means there is no speed involed.

the OZ drift scene is just coming out. So what most see isnt brilliant all the time.

IMO the japs the way they do it is totally amazing. You could class them as stunt drivers with some of the things they perform in a way.

but rally is hardest IMO. what makes things hard is variables.

Also F1... driving them cars around that fast and taking the G's those guys do wouldnt be easy

Also - there is a level of constant perfection in circuit racing that is probably missing in rallying. I'm pretty sure when Petter won the rally of Sweden recently he didnt take EVERY corner to its maximum potential. However - in a few weeks time you can be pretty sure that Michael Schumacher will take 99% of the corners in the Melbourne GP to his maximum potential.

relicr31act... this what I mean with rallying about going "slower" the actual km/h is irrelevant. Anyway, just my opinion.

I think that Petter and his competitors ARE trying to go flat out everywhere!! The nature of the beast is that with only a couple of runs over any course and there being a degree of the "unknown" it simply isn't possible given the severe repercussions, namely hitting trees at 200km/h!! In F1 the speeds and G's etc are definitely higher but the safety level is so much higher it is not funny. They have ppl on every corner with fire extinguishers etc. In rally you f*** up big time you are on your own!! Admittedly in circuit racing you have to contend with other cars which in rally you don't, but in rally you have water splashes, jumps, snow, sand, dust, trees, kangaroos, big rocks, spectators, ruts, banks, mud etc etc etc!!! I think that Sarrizen who is driving for Subaru this year is a case in point. He did nothing in F1 admittedly but he did well in Corsica (I think) last year finishing third outright. This was tarmac and what he knows. But in Sweden a couple of weeks ago Chris Atkinson (Aussie rookie to WRC) kicked his arse in the snow even though neither had never driven on snow or studs. Chris's extensive experience in rallying has shone through and in my opinion will continue to do so. Every other form of motorsport is to a more or less degree fairly contrived and for that reason does not demand as complete as set of driving skills as rally, no question.

I offered quite a few ppl the opportunity to drive my big block front engined dragster down the quarter and never got anyone that would have a go!!

GODDAMNIT!!!?!!??!?!?!?!??!!!!!

Adrian

I think most people would agree that rally is probally the most skillful and testing of motorsports, but take a second to think about the skill level and incredable awareness it takes to peddle a 7000hp fuel funnycar down the quarter at over 300mph and in less then 5secs with barely any vision, your sitting directy behind the engine with the gearbox running between your legs, then your gotta contend with the vibration, fumes, and mabye banging a blower which pretty much happens right in you face, as well as a million other varibles that may happen in such a short space of time .....so not the easiest job in the world!!!

Everyone has omitted what is in my opinion the motorsport that requires the most skill... Motocross and supercross. As a former professional rider I can speak with more authority than a bench racer...

As for "car" motorsport, I have to agree that rallying is by a considerable margin.

PS. No offence intended to the bench racers out there...

I read an article recently (but it may have been an old magazine) in which they interviewed a driver who won the "Pikes Peek" run. He commented that he got to race against a lot of WRC drivers for some event and he beat them all. (These drivers were some of his idols)

Sorry I cant remember his name (anyone else here read the article) but either he is an exceptional driver or WRC drivers aren't driving at the same level.

I'm try to decide if rally drivers are exceptionally talented or exceptionally crazy, and get away with it a bit more because there usually aren't other cars close by when they make (and correct) their mistakes.

My vote is still with circuit, mainly because it's not just about driving well and getting a quick time, but also having to master race craft.

drift is the synchronised swimming of the motorsport world...

Thats what I thought until I saw that cartoon about the corolla. Then I changed my mind.

Watch out circuit fans, drift is only 1 vote behind ATM.....And rally is 57 votes ahead :)

TEH DRIFTz0r IST TEH MOST SKILLEDEST SPORT OF ALL

and putting an RB engine into a shitty 240sx rocks!

and you can nevar lose in an AE86, except to your old man's WRX.

and JDM is tyte y0, esp when I deck my ride out in JDM option parts.

:headspin:

Rally rocks my jocks... it gets my vote.

Drift is still at the bottom of the pyramid. See below

Roy gave it a squirt at Calder on the weekend and said words to the effect of it's fun but circuit is still a bigger rush and more exacting.

    • I don't really know general street pads too well, but there is no reason you can't get a low dust, long wearing, no squeal pad that works for those calipers at a reasonable price....they would just be a low end to medium price daily style pad.  If new pads don't have much bite or they loose it over time, it is probably just the pad glazing up which you can fix by giving them a good thrashing every now and then (or get the mechanic to deglaze them at next service) Track or semi track pads are where you have to put up with excessive dust (and potentially squealing as a side effect of that) in return for good bite and performance when very hot. Street pads have nothing like that sort of punishment, even long downhills with the brakes on are easier than a track session
    • lol yeah I'll check that, reminds me of the LDV thread!  I don't think that is the problem here, the starter doesn't even solenoid click. I did do a super quick test by removing the starter motor's power cable from the engine bay fuse box and the battery voltage was still 10v, so something super fishy is going on. BTW here is a R33 fuse box table I threw together from a few sources....use at own risk! R33 Fuse Box and Sources.xlsx
