Gday All,

Well the time has finally arrived, I picked up my R32 GTS-t on Tuesday from Sydeny and got to give her a nice old run back to Canberra. Must say im pretty happy with it so far even though shes a bit rough around the edges. I have a few questions for you knowledgable minds and hopefully theres someone out there who can help me.

First one is to do with something i found printed on my ECU. There the words and numbers "Decide 226" printed on it and i have no idea what its meant to mean?!? Anyone got an idea?

Secondly I have a leaking exhasut gasket which im looking at replacing myself. Anyone have any advice in regards to this? i.e. should i even bother, is it gonna save me some cash, is it a bitch of a job etc. I did just pick myself up a copy of he engine workshop manual off ebay for $15 on cd so im hoping that will be of a help. I was informed by Southside Performance Imports in Sydney that i could manage it myself, even though it wil require removing the turbo, sound about right?

Lastly im currently having an issue with starting it, this being that it wont start since yesterday arvo. I turn the ignition and try and start it and it wont even turn over, it just does nothing. However all my electrics are still working including turbo timer, boost controller even the Air Con. Im a bit baffled by this one and im positive it isnt the battery as its brand spanking new last week.

Anyway this is my first post and it a sorta big one so i hope you all made it this far.

Any help on any of these would be great, cheers.

Exhaust gasket I wouldn't worry about doing unless it is a major leak. Quite a few parts need taking off to get to it and unless it really needs to be done it isn't causing any damage. It will get worse over time but mine has been ticking due to a small leak for over 6 months now and it hasn't gotten any worse.

The wording on the ECU could mean anything, I have some really funky stickers on mine too but nfi what it means.

Not sure about the starting issues sorry.

Congrats on getting the beast though. Hopefully it doesn't reach into your wallet every time you look at it like mine does.

Yeh thanks mate, its already hitting the back pocket a bit but i expected that.

About the gasket, its pretty bad. It makes a real loud screaming noise when the turbo comes onto boost. It defintely needs to be fixed as its screwing up the max boost point. At the moment it doesnt reach max boost till about 5000 rpm which sucks. The ECU bit is what i thought just some crazy japanese thing probably. Gotta have a bit more of a look at the starting problem too.

Thanks for your help anyway.

    • If a magnet doesn’t stick to anything except another magnet then it’s not a very good magnet and is probably just a piece of steel
    • Magnetic drain plugs are fine. Just don't buy cheap shit ones. They're actually better than letting magnetic shit float around in your oil. The magnet also didn't just "fall out". OP was drilling the plug out which allowed it to come out. Even some OEM plugs are magnetic.
    • I have to say, I was briefly considering getting a magnetic drain plug but never could be bothered out of laziness/cheapness and now I'm very glad I didn't.
    • Update: I got the magnet out. I bought 3 different flexible magnetic reach tools, but none of them worked. The magnet on the tip was all less than 2lbs of force, so i had to buy a special cylindrical magnet that had a pull force of 9lbs.  The magnet finally came in the mail yesterday, so i got under the car to get to work. The super strong magnet isn't that long, so i only have about 1 finger pinch lengths to hold it. I was so scared when i was going in the hole, that the 9lb magnet would just fly away inside the oil pan never to be seen again, but i had my butt cheeks clenched and finger gripped on that thing so tight, i managed to get it to suck the other magnet out.  It was a victory for me last night.
