Well i finally got around to taking the line down to WSID last wednesday and being my first time i thought i'd share the tail with you all and maybe mention a few things i've learnt they other newbies might not think of on their first trip.

I arrived nice and early which turned out to be a very good idea as it made the whole scrutineering and pre-staging far quicker and i was out on the track within about 45 min of arriving. It also gave me chance to do my first run ever without a giant crowd to witness my every feckup.

As it turns out this last caveat was uneeded as my first run pulled a 14.6, running stock everything and 10psi of boost. My reaction time was a blistering .7 seconds..... the envy of vegatables, coma patients and corpses from all around the world. As this run was also coupled with my first intentionally induced burn out

i was feeling very productive at this time.

With this initially encourageing time under my belt i rolled up my sleeves (well rolled down my sleeve really.... remember long sleeves are required) and set about setting a propper time.... i knew a flat 8 was waiting for me that night... willall racing has nothing on my stocker :D

My next run was abit of a mystery. My R/T dropped to .2 putting my a little nearer to the world of people with a pulse but my ET stepped up to 15secs. Clearly someone had moved the finish line. After screaming at an official to move it forward a few meters (he knew i was onto him..... i could see the look on his face.... he just couldnt believe i had him all figured out).

Back in the pits My friend P.D was there with some advice derived from his hard earnt experience. "You need more stickers and Neon mate" he muttered "Cant expect to do 8's without a shopping list down your door... oh... and open our bonnet your engine must be roasting under there".

My next 2 runs were again mixed. I never got back under 15secs although my R/T stayed reasonable even if it doesnt effect my ET. I have to work on my changes tho... on both of my last 2 runs i missed a shift.... well i bounced off the H to be exact.

Things i have learnt :

1. Its Really hard to put a helmet on inside a skyline.

2. Add a pair of scissors and some tape to your tool kit and take it with you. I usually carry a socket and spanner set with me.... unfortunately these are useless at fixing split hoses and other small things. A big thankyou to the tatoo'd skin head who was racing his wifes Ford GT for lending me his/her scissors.

3. Pop your bonnet after a run - it gets hot under there.

4. Take a tire pressure gauge with you

5. Take 2 cars - 1 to race and 1 to put your stuff in/tow you home if required.

6. Some racers have really good looking girlfriends.

But to be serious for a second, it really was a fun night and i'd recommend it to anyone. The atmosphere is friendly and the rnge of cars very interesting.

Also nothing beats flooring it without worrying about sirens and blue lights.

Special thanks to P.D (Mx83toy) for giving me the post race assesment after each run. I hope to see some of you there next time.

M

Cereal : Its an S1 94 GTST... gunmetal grey. All stock bar n Eboost. I have the slips at home, i've just been putting off dragging out the scanner.... i'll do them this weekend.

Danny : Yep i'm just up past the bottle shop - my car is normally preceeded by a mass of paniced wildlife... mainly rabbits. And i'm trying to organise to go again this wednesday (2nd of the Mar). your welcome to join me.

Silver : Glad u liked it :D

Well someone had fun :)

Notice how most of the good looking gf's are with the tattoo'd motorbike guys ? :) Their was an absolutely pure brunette there last week, hot diggity dawg!!

Afew of us are going again on 2/3/05, a thread has been created.

The gates open at 4:30pm (even though the website says 5pm) and last week I arrived at 5pm to drive straight in and was about 6th inline. The annoying thing was that I was put into lane 4 (3rd car back) which meant their was 2 (lane 1 isn't used) full lines of cars whom raced before me yet arrived over and hour after I did which was quite frustrating (basically beating the rush doesn't get you any further ahead unless you have a <11sec car).

I still think WSID need to organise 3 x 40 car groups. The first 40 competitors whom arrive, 2nd 40 and 3rd 40. At 6pm when the racing starts -only- the A group is allowed to line up and race. Once they have completed 4 runs each they are told to sit out until the end of the night (if time persists for extra runs). Then the B group is called up, followed by C group. That way everyone gets the same amount of runs (plenty of time available), the people whom arrive early are rewarded and you don't have to wait 45mins between runs meaning you have to spend all night lined up out the back and can't spectate.

Ben, that is a f**king tops idea. That is one thing I didn't like when I raced there. I wanted to go spectate for a while, but you get that feeling like you're missing out on runs and wasting time. that would solve a lot of issues.

nice thinking.

I've thought about emailing my suggestion to them but doubt they'd listen.

What they have been doing lately is putting similar cars together. That's better (and safer) but the problem is you have like 20 <11sec cars in lane 1 and 50+ FWD/Rice in lane 2 when all the lanes should be filled evenly.

Looks like they changed the staging lanes to have cars of similar engines/performance grouped together. This has its pros and cons, one of which is the fact that you are made to wait even though you get to the track early. I would definitely write in to WSID and highlight this fact to them as it isn't fair from a competitor's point of view.

Also, you could get your first run in then spectate for a while and wait until later for alot of the cars who leave early or break down and then get 3 or more runs in during the second half of the night :)

Pro's: You get to race similar cars.

Cons: Some lanes have 60 or 70 cars whilst others only have 20-30 cars. This has been causing traffic jams towards the end of the lane where the carpark/bays start meaning you might think you are lining up because your lane is full when actually all the cars infront are in line for a different lane than you (meaning you miss your run).

Ok, my slips are on their way. I got my scanner rigged up but my net connection went down... now i have them both up for once.

Jimbo : i dont think i'm gonna make it this wednesday, it doesnt look like works going to let me out in time. plus i just installed the pfc and i want a chance to play with it and get it all dyno'd first.... but that said if u want me to drive your car .... :(

As for queueing for runs.... I did noticed that i was getting approdx 1 run every 25-30 mins at the start and then i was getting about 1 run every 45 to an hour at the end.... but being my first night i cant comment on whether i tihnk its screwed up or not.

One thing the current setup doesnt do is give you the feeling you can safely go spectate. i went straight back in the queue after each run because as each run ended the queue had grown and i had no idea if i would get another run if i waited.

That said in hind sight i could have done my runs and then spectated until closing, but i wouldnt want to risk doing the reverse. Downside to running early is i miss out on the colder air.

Anyone have an english PFC operation manual i could borrow?..... mines all in jap and i can only find an english installation manual.
