Just wondering what u guys think of slightly modified skylines vs other similarly modified nissans. Reason I wanted to know was that I've been to the nissansilvia site and alot of them claims that they beat skylines with ease.

Just wondering what experience u guys had in terms of running these cars with ur R32 or R33.

apples and oranges...

ive beaten many silvias and 180s but ive also been whooped by one... it all depends on what theyve had done obviously. infact i beat one at calder on sunday and all i have had done is a POD filter and remapped ECU and catback. Dunno what he had done but id say it also wasnt much.

one thing to remember is that theres only so much a 4 cylinder engine can handle.

I wanna correct you there man,

I reckon the sr20det can handle alot more than the Rb25,

Iv owned both, I reckon the 200sx was such a nice handling car though, just handle so well very nimble, compared to the r33, well i guess the R33 is heavier and alot bigger, but yeh this is just what i think,

Also iv seen some crazy figures from a sr20det with full zorst, pod, boosted and chip making 210kw @ wheels, theres a article on AUTO SPEED about it,

i would like to see a R33 push 200kw with those mods,

Maybe? then again maybe not,

I just htink the sr20det can be developed and react alot better to mods,

If you were chasing bigg HP you think about a VL 3.0 Block, and i rekcon sr20dets can handle so much more b4 changing heads or block.

Please don't flame me,

DOnnie

apples and oranges is correct.

my 180 is a completely different car than the skyline, its not as modded yet, but even so - it handles a LOT better, feels completely different to drive... its more a "drivers car" in my opinion. the skyline was just bigger and looked better, but i do think i prefer driving the 180.

Yeah the guys at Autospeed really love the 180sx :D

http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_1056/P_1/article.html

If that doesnt get you syked to get a 180 nothing will

performance wise i think they are pretty similar. The skyline does 0-100 in 6 seconds and the 180sx is 6.2 seconds so It all comes down to how much you modify it. but everyone says the s13's respond so well to mods, plus the fact 180s are generally cheaper than r33s make them a pretty good option.

and who says the skylines look better anyway :)

Skylines are the top of the Nissan range after all in terms of performance and have been for a while. The Skylines have the full race pedigory.

The Silvias/180sx were always the step down... But of course with the less weight and good handling of course with some work they're going to put up a good fight.

I think the 180sx/200sx are nice cars though..got that sporty slick look. Skylines are more beefy/tough looking which I like - its all personal preference.

Power to weight ratio is all that counts for acceleration.

SR20s -- they are good little engines. They don't make 200rwkw on the stock turbo's tho' ( maybe on a space cadet dyno they do)

Don't know about the handling aspect. Skyline chassis was made to race unlike the silvia/180.

On a long drive or in a crash I'd take the skyline.

thats right... if the SR20DET was better then it would have been the engine they used for their performance cars.

the 180s and silvias are a great package tho... its a nissan... why bicker... we all in the same family :)

but skylines still 0wn j00!!! lol

It is horses for courses guys...

I have a R32 so I therefore like the Skylines...

No one has mentioned the sound of the engines... At full noise the SR20DET sounds very nice, but right through the rev range, a nicely exhausted Skyline in RB20DET, 25DET or 26DETT sound soooo much better.

Angry and tough is how I would describe it.:burnout:

what do you mean??

phrased like a true tool (me that is by the way lol)

what i meant was...

DON19E pretty much states that the SR20DET is better than the RB series engines...

hence...

if the SR20DET was better then it would have been used for Nissans top of the range performance cars instead of the RB series (how it was meant to come out :))

lmao... yeah i read it the first time :)

in terms of what can be handled by these engines (SR vs RB) many ppl think SR's are tougher, because they have a good reputation. There are of course examples from both engine ranges that show high power from unmodified internals.

Personally, the RB's are better. While the SR is a tough as nails little motor, and you can screw big power from them, they are a harsher sounding/feeling motor. The RB is just so smooth and refined at ALL revs from idle to 8grand, while giving you a sinister angry racey type of howl/scream depending on your zorst!! This is a big factor as to why i bought one!

As to running SR's against RB's, with 160 at wheels, i just lost to an sr20 silvia with the SAME mods as mine, apart from him running more boost (no ceramic turbine to worry about.) Annoying as it is a cheaper car than mine! So yeah they are tough the SR's. Now i got 200 at the wheels, and the afforementioned SR silvia has blown its engine :D

But at the end of the day, once you start modifying, whoever spends more will be faster. If you spend the same amount, they arent gonna be that far apart on the street.

on another personal factor, i prefer the comfort, and classier style and better ride quality of the line (it is a more expensive car after all) to the more sparse 180's/silvias. -NB, Early s13 seats are the worst! Who likes em?!! no one ive ever met. And that early check trim.... cant compare that to the smooth velour of the line!! ;)

BOTTOM LINE IS:- S13=boy racer. Lines=boy racer with a bit more cash??!! :) and as said, they all nissans, they all awesome.

Seeing as this is SKylines AUS, i should be pretty safe for leaning towards lines!!!

Interesting.

Okay, imagine this. Consider all the cars I will mention below factory stock. GTR not included because we know it will own :D

R32 GTS-T

R32 GTS-4

R33 GTS-T

R34 GT-T

S13 Silvia K's

PS13 180SX

RPS13 180SX Type X

S14 Silvia K's

S15 Silvia Spec R

Z32 Fairlady Z (NA & TT for good measure :D

Which car would be the quickest down the 1/4 mile?

Which would be quicker around Wakefield?

SLY 33 : $$?? no i don't think so man, $$ does not make a car go faster, If you know how to drive, then that can make a car go faster,

In my 200sx i have been a R32 gtst with the same mods, i wasn't boosted, it was just exhaust and filter, i chopped him by yonks,

Money ain't a thing,

inark : I can see what your saying but you can't just pull that out and say that :D

heheh if the sr20 was so superiour nissan would of chose it as a race engine, im sure there were other factors than a few nerds sitting in a room going " yeh rb25 is beta engine, we use that to race"

hehehe

Im sure low end torque rar rar rar... had something to do with it ,

concerntrate on more the car, as the OG question was, which cars are beta, and i just listed everything i thought,

Tough lil rev happy engine, reacts greatly to mods, awesome handeling, awesome potential,

Or and btw SLY 33, dunno wat you drive but if its anything but a gtst that only rev til 7......don't rev too hard, or your engine mite end up like the silvias :0
