Stereo Installation in an R32??

OK guys, I see everyone else isn't having dramas fitting their head units! I'm more than capable of all the wiring but the dilema i'm having is when my car was imported, it had only the A/C control period! No brackets, no nothing so what I want to now is- - - How has everyone mounted their headunit? Is there a generic part that can be made to fit? Is everyone custom fabricating their mounts, etc?

I installed mine last week..

I got it right first go.. even tho all the colours of the wires were completely different to what info i could find : Only problem i had was i didnt ground it properly.. but that was easily fixed (stupid me)

One thing you will def need is the Nissan double diversity adaptor.. thats a must.. saves a whole lot of stuffing around!

The only plugs you need from the stock loom are these too here..

and wallah! you have a new stereo..

I installed my own stereo from scratch, laying all new cables down the wells of the side of the car. I just need some stereo place to make me up a boot install now because all I have is an ugly load of cable and free roaming amps bolted to a bit of 12mm MDF.

I thought it was quite easy to install compared with my Laser TX3. Hardest part in the GTR was getting the power to the battery under the hood which involved taking the wheel off to get at the over sized grommet.

A MULTIMETER IS YOUR BEST FRIEND....when installing stereos

Its fairly simple if you have some sort of idea that you are doing..

If you arent that confident maybe get a friend who has done it before or just get a pro to do it..

I didnt rewire mine.. and you can see what a mess it was.. but i cleaned it all up.. you just tape up what you dont need..

And you dont always need a multimeter!

Car stereo is car stereo, once youve done one they are all easy, ive done a complete install, front and rear speakers, boot install, and had numerous headunits in there without one hitch, multimeter makes life much eaiser, fresh wires never hurt and alot of custom work goes down well.

Im amazed that no on has mentioned you may need to do an amp bypass. It may have already been done or it may not have a factory amp. To check, its a small round thing in the boot, screwed to the underside of the parcel tray

Sorry to dig up an old thread, figured it's better than posting a whole new topic.

Today I just put in a new headunit, very simple process, but I didn't have enough cabling for my speakers so I decided to just wire them up to the stock speaker wires. The problem now is I don't know if I have the stock amp you mention of. Is it actually round or is it more of a box with wires going in and out of it?

If it is can anyone give me any tips on how to bypass this, ie. a wiremap of the amp so I can just join the input to output?

Hi ToF, I found that the stock rear amp in my r32 is round, with one small bundle of wires exiting it. Mine has a little white sticker which says "Clarion" on it, but yours may have fallen off. It's probably about 5x7.5x7.5. I can take a picture of mine and post if you want.

I'm not really sure how to bypass it (my rears are after market Kenwoods which glow "Kenwood", but don't appear to be wired to the front), but I've been looking into replacing all 4 speakers recently ... until I found out the hole is only 6.5" in the back, and 6"x4" in the front.

hey i just bought a pioneer with blue tooth ($600 + deck) but im having trouble finding the existing rear speaker wires if anyone can remember what colour the rear speaker wires were that would be a great help

Ok so i thought there may be a problem with the rears, so i decided to check them from the amp plug and they worked fine.. so why cant i get them to work from the front plug???

For the front speakers the colours look to be the same on the front plug as the amp (however couldnt get them to work from the amp plug for some reason)

For the rear speakers the colours on the front plug are different to the colours on the amp..

help someone What colours are used the rear speakers on the front plug??????

i have tried trial and error but couldnt come up with the goods

hey thanks for the help but trust me mate i have, i even printed out a copy but the thing is the colours on the pdf and the harness dont match,

even tried just using the sockets it says but the rears dont work

Are you using the 'pre-94' harness wiring from that PDF? I have followe that for my brother's 1989 R32 GTST (amped setup) and it all matched up.

Haven't had any complaints re: the wiring guide so I guess double check your connections again.
