sorry forgot...ok well the boost guage says it's boosting ...but it doesn't feel like it. normally i'd feel dumped in the seat a little more...basically it feels like theres less power. the boost guage also seemed to be showing it boosting higher sooner. i have only just started (last few days) revving it higher like to redline. lower RPM doesn't feel like theres much boost where as you used to be able to feel it more. does any of that make sence

Maybe your loosing boost(-ed air) from somewhere. Get someone to drive behind and look for black smoke coming out the exhaust when you floor it. Get your pipes and rubber intake hoses checked for leaks.

the 02 wont affect how the car runs, it will simply affect how much fuel you burn up. you can simply unplug the 02 sensor and your car will just run mega rich. its on the dump pipe just after the heat shield. youll see a plug thingy tapped in the exhaust pipe with 3 wires, thats the 02 sensor. you can unplug and the ecu will just run rich and waste fuel. i cant tell what the problem is but it wont be the 02 sensor. what mods do you have to the car? without knowing anthing it sounds like boost / fuel cut from too much boost or some sort of retard with the stock ecu

yeah i know bout the o2 sensor not changing performance...jsut thought coz i'm sending it in to do that mite as well get boost chekced aswell. when it does boost it seems to go past the marker on the stock boost guage (the one without a number) seems to go clsoer to 7+

i've got 3' exhaust

pod filter

ok the flat feeling is the ecu retarding timing and doing boost / fuel cuts

why your hitting or going near +7 i dont know but this will be the cause.

+7 on the guage is +700mmhg which is 14psi. about 11psi-12psi is the limit before the stocker ecu will cut in and do boost / fuel cut. when this happens you floor it, the car makes boost, normal noises but it feels flat and doesnt accel very hard. have you done any bleed valve changes, removed the stock solenoid or changed the tubing etc?

i've only had the car for about a month and havent changed anything myself...or had anything done to it. i'm new to modifying and jsut elarning so... it's come from japan the way it is (i'm first owner is ausrtalia) so i'm not sure wat it's got. any ideas or should i jsut get a general check when i get the o2 changed. could any of this other stuff be contributing to my bad economy aswell 250 per tank

Hey mate i had the same problem, basically its wat had been just before by Paulr33. Your car is retarding the timing and therefore you feel that flat power band during the rev range at around about 4,500 to about 5,800 than it pulls like a rocket again. Well Basically its your shitty bleed valve this was the problem for me i had a turbo smart bleed valve and it would spike to 15psi no matter what the setting. My car was making 217.5 rwkws at 11 psi but the power curve was to the shit house, and basically a r33 with say 170rwkws would have eatten me for breakkie. I had the GCG hi flow but all the same the problem your having is to do with the boost spiking. And in my opinion get an electronic boost controller if you can afford it and maybe a dyno run just to make sure thats the problem. Does you car pull really hard from like 6,000 to redline?

have a look on the LHS strut tower.. you should see a little cylinder bolted there with two small tubes going to it, and an electronic plug.. that is your boost solenoid. Just see whether that is hooked up.. and whether the hoses are actually going anywhere.

I assume you are talking R33 ??

    • I mean the other day I had to walk someone through diagnosing why their timing belt was walking off the cam gears. At least one of the issues was a bent tensioner stud. Local mechanics have found runout on the CAS mechanism causing weird failures. I'm also no saint here I've documented some of the things I've had to learn the hard way. Something I discovered recently is that my CA emissions catalytic converters weren't even welded correctly to align the downpipe to the main cat and they tossed the support bracket that goes from the transfer case to the downpipe to support everything there. I spend a lot of time chasing down these decidedly unsexy problems and the net effect is it feels like I never actually get to the original objective (flex fuel, VCAM, oil control, cooling, etc).
    • At times with how you make everything sound, all I imagine Americans doing when they see a gtr is standing there looking at it and bashing it with a gun like how a caveman would with a club and hoping it fixes itself
    • I think this is just a product of how the US market works for this stuff. Shops are expensive and there's no real way of knowing what kind of results you're going to get, people don't really have the institutional knowledge. I have heard too much at this point to really put faith in anybody "full service" except maybe DSport and they aren't really a full service kind of shop. If you go to the right place I have no doubt they'll get it right for you. Some locals have set it up right but the cost really is nuts and even now they're still fighting issues. And you know I'm a crazy person who thinks things like twin scroll, relatively short low-mount cast headers, PCV recirc to intake, recirculating BOV, right-sized for ~400 whp, MAF load, validating all of that to a standard comparable to OEM test programs, etc are relevant. For what it's worth, multiple local owners at this point have been stuck in a perpetual cycle of blowing a motor -> getting someone to rebuild it -> some missed detail causes the bearings to wipe and spin just outside of break-in mileage or drop valves or some other catastrophe -> cycle repeats. I usually only find out about this because I'm perpetually helping random friends with diagnosing car troubles, Skyline or otherwise. The single turbo stuff if I'm honest is mostly secondary, it just doesn't seem to achieve the numbers in the ~2000-3000 rpm region that I would expect given the results I've seen here or in Motive's videos. I don't really know what we're missing here in the US to be causing this. Lots of people like to emphasize the necessity of finishing the project first and foremost, but I'm not made of money and I can't afford to be trashing a 15k+ USD engine build with any regularity. Or spending my relatively limited garage time these days unable to triangulate problems because too much was changed all at once. Also, even if it isn't a catastrophic failure I would consider spending the cost of single turbo conversion with nothing to show for it to be pretty bad.
    • The water pump is know to leak as well. So if the coolant is low checking that first as well as hoses.
    • Reading your posts Josh, sometimes I feel like I've gone in a time machine back to the 90's when everyone was doe-eyed and figuring things out for the first time.  I've lost track of how many single turbo GTR's I've seen on track that haven't burnt down lol. Everything has been figured out a long time ago. These things are at the point now where its essentially turn-key to go single turbo.
