These are custom made. The turbo is still a Garrett unit but it is not released by Garrett like that. I have been told this by Garrett themselves.

That is not to say that it can't be done, it just costs a little bit more money.

You are probably looking at an extra $150-$200 on top of the basic turbo price.

For the second turbo, sure enough it does come with a .63 exhaust A/R but this doesn't mean it is still rated at 500 hp. It does, however, mean that you will run out of puff at around 5500 rpm. Quick off the line you will be though.

It all comes down to what horsepower you want and when you want it.....anything can be done.

hey mate, very interested in getting a turbo of you, just need some advice first

How much horsepower/kilowatts do you want? =210rwkw  

What are you using the car for? = Street

When do you want boost roughly? = 2200/2500

Do you want power early or late in the rev range = early

What Mods you engine has or is going to have including computers or exhaust etc = 3' turbo back, pod+cai, am organising powerfc, FMIC and turbo(this is where you come in)

Obviously, what car? = R32 Gtst

Intercooled? and is it large, small, medium = will be med

Still running AFM or upgraded or no longer there = stock

Custom exhaust manifold or standard? (custom exhaust manifolds give you more options) = standard

External wastegate or internal(limited to virtually 450hp)?

It seems like people are recommending this 2530 for this setup correct ?

i know 210rwkw isnt huge, but its all i feel i really need.  I was planning on high-flow but it seems like for a bit extra i can give myself much more potential in the future perhaps.. ??

The 25/30 will get you there but you could get away with a beefed up highflow and still pi55 it in. Beefed up highflow will cost you around $1200-$1300 including larger shaft and 360 degree thrust bearing. A 25/30 will set you back about $1700 and then you will need to add another $400 for fitting it, maybe a bit less.

Can you please advise your comments on the following as I have just through the process myself of sourcing a turbo and the feed back I've got:

GT35/40r ar0.70 and ar1.06 can be sourced with an internal wastegate rated 700hp

with ceramic ball bearings

RB25 HiFlow with the right internals is capable of 550hp  

The hiflow is meant to come on boost quicker with a good mid range torque, but the GT would have the legs in the top end.  

I'm being told the Hiflow has a better durability in case of backfire, better torque range for circuit racing.

The Hiflow will cost me $1,750 because of the rated internals ie bigger shaft than the GT, wheels and bearings, however unable to get the specs (all top secret stuff)

What is the cost of the GT35/40R?

Can you please advise the spec on the hi flow equipment used?

- shaft size and brand

- Wheel brand

- finished AR compressor and turbine

- type of bearings

- timing (I assume it exchange)

Can you tell me who gave you the info on the 35/40 rated at 700hp internally gated?

Also, dunno about a highflow stepping up to 550hp. Is possible but I know for a fact that the GT is more durable. Boost stays up there once you get it and you will have more legs like you said. For track stuff, the highflow will definately have better power curve to get you out of corners faster but I don't know how much punishment it will handle. Constantly on boost like that would kill it very quickly. You MUST have an oil cooler fitted if you want to run a highflow with that hp figure and on a track/circuit.

I'm just after something that has a killer kick from 3000rpm to 5-5500rpm.

Highflow would be a good option for you as it would bolt straight back on and can be made very strong and reliable. Will also give you a better torque curve in your mid range. boost should come on strong and hold through 5500 I would think.

would you be removing the turbo or not?

Yeh I would remove the turbo and freight to where ever it needs to go.

I can pick it up and drop it off if you like. Is the turbo on there the standard one at the moment?

If so I'll get a price tomorrow on the beefy upgraded highflow. If all is good I will get the ball rolling in the next couple of days.

The turn around shouldn't be any more than 4 days but could take 5. He requests that all of ihs rebuilds be VSR balanced so that they are perfect and to do this he needs to send it to be balanced by his sister company in Perth. He said he will not warranty his work unless that is done. That is why it takes that long. Is this ok?

I'm not completely sure of the specs of the turbine and compressor wheels or shaft sizes/brands but I'm sure he will know when I ask him tomorrow.

I'm not sure how to work out the payment thing as I don't have a business name. I can, however, give you a receipt for it and maintain warranty for the item.

90% of turbo failures occur due to oil contamination and/or starvation so make sure you have clean oil and that the supply line is also clean. This will ensure a healthy life for the turbo.

If your able to pick it up that would be mad. I live on the gold coast though..?

Yerp the turbo is standard everything. It's currently still on the car but i could most likely rip it off this weekend.

Specs on the highflow would be excellent, definately would like to know what his plans would be, and how much the total price will come to.

4-5 days turnaround is fine.

How well does he know you? Would he let the turbo go out the door and you drop him cash the next day? I am happy to pay cash for the job :)

And just for interest sake, how long a warranty will it have.

700hp is stated on the "horsepowerinabox" GT series BB turbo chart for the GT35/40.

The suppliers keep telling me and as well as various tuning shops in Bris, that the hiflow is rated at 550hp BUT no one can give me the data.

Can I get the spec used for the $1200 hiflow unit you refer to in the thread?

I have got an oil cooler installed.

My thought was that the GT35/40 internally gated would be too laggy compared to the hi flow for the circuit but great match for the drags.

Ok, just got off the phone with him 5 seconds ago.

The VL highflow he said will handle the 550 hp but oil cooler is a must if you are running the higher boost and you must have the 360 thrust. He uses a 2 inch 100 thou comp wheel and retains the standard size turbine so that you don't suffer any lag. He crops the turbine wheel 5 thou which moves your power range into the mid-high area as opposed to the mid provided by the standard unit.

He said there is no need to go a T4 shaft (bigger one) as the standard spec one is easily able to handle it and using the larger shaft makes it laggier.

He said that he has supplied 3 turbo's to VL street racers with these exact specs and they have been absolutely wrapped with them. They have said that boost comes on strong at 3000 and holds through 6000. The standard highflow is about $1200 but with the 360 degree it is a couple hundred more. The bearing itself is a few hundred dollars apparently.

5 day turn around at worst.

Don't expect any great prices on the highflows as there is literally no money in it. I am finding it difficult to give a competetive price on a highflow and keep enough to put fuel in my car to pick up and drop off. The highflow on the RB30 turbo will cost $1600 including all the specs above and the 360 degree thrust. Without the 360 it's only about $1300. New actuators are $150-$180.

Like I said, there is no money in it but I will do my best to save a hundred or two for you. I can definately still get better prices on the GT range. The difference between RRP and my price is still pretty good so hopefully when these 35R's come in I can sell a couple.

Hey mate, how much for a Garrett GT28 and Garrett GT28RS with all oil lines etc for fittment to an R34 GTT? Which would u recommend? I'm specifically after better accelaration (0-100).

Standard I believe is a T28 with nylon compressor wheel and ceramic exhaust wheel. Dont know much else except its supposed to be the same as an R33 GTST Series 2.

Oh BTW, whats the price for the HKS GT2835 and did those above prices include all of the hoses and kit to fit?

I don't do HKS because Garrett supply HKS with their cartridges. This means that you can get a Garrett to the same specs for half the price.

I believe I already answered the second question.

I'll get you a price on the Garrett equivalent in the 2835 but won't be til Monday.

Maybe it would be a good idea to edit your first post of this thread with the price for each turbo as you get the price so that people don't have to read every single post/page looking to see if a price has already been quoted ?

    • Thanks, I removed the fuse and the relay from the car and made my own circuit with them to test them with a test bulb.  I will look for the wiring diagram and go from there.

    • Now that the break-in period for both clutch and transmission is nearly over I'd like to give some tips before I forget about everything that happened, also for anyone searching up how to do this job in the future: You will need at least 6 ton jack stands at full extension. I would go as far as to say maybe consider 12 ton jack stands because the height of the transmission + the Harbor Freight hydraulic platform-style transmission jack was enough that it was an absolute PITA getting the transmission out from under the car and back in. The top edge of the bellhousing wants to contact the subframe and oil pan and if you're doing this on the floor forget about trying to lift this transmission off the ground and onto a transmission jack from under the car. Also do not try to use a scissor jack transmission lift. You have to rotate the damn thing in-place on the transmission jack which is hard enough with an adjustable platform and a transmission cradle that will mostly keep the transmission from rolling off the jack but on a scissor lift with a tiny non-adjustable platform? Forget it. Use penetrating oil on the driveshaft bolts. I highly recommend getting a thin 6 point combination (box end + open end) wrench for both the rear driveshaft and front driveshaft and a wrench extension. These bolts are on tight with very little space to work with and those two things together made a massive difference. Even a high torque impact wrench is just the wrong tool for the job here and didn't do what I needed it to do. If your starter bolts aren't seized in place for whatever reason you can in fact snake in a 3/8 inch ratchet + 6 point standard chrome socket up in there and "just" remove the bolts for the starter. Or at least I could. It is entirely by feel, you can barely fit it in, you can barely turn the stupid ratchet, but it is possible. Pull the front pipe/downpipe before you attempt to remove the transmission. In theory you don't have to, in practice just do it.  When pulling the transmission on the way out you don't have to undo all the bolts holding the rear driveshaft to the chassis like the center support bearing and the rear tunnel reinforcement bar but putting the transmission back in I highly recommend doing this because it will let you raise the transmission without constantly dealing with the driveshaft interfering in one way or another. I undid the bottom of the engine mount but I honestly don't know that it helped anything. If you do this make sure you put a towel on the back of the valve cover to keep the engine from smashing all the pipes on the firewall. Once the transmission has been pulled back far enough to clear the dowels you need to twist it in place clockwise if you're sitting behind the transmission. This will rotate the starter down towards the ground. The starter bump seems like it might clear if you twist the transmission the other way but it definitely won't. I have scraped the shit out of my transmission tunnel trying so learn from my mistake. You will need a center punch and an appropriate size drill bit and screw to pull the rear main seal. Then use vice grips and preferably a slide hammer attachment for those vice grips to yank the seal out. Do not let the drill or screw contact any part of the crank and clean the engine carefully after removing the seal to avoid getting metal fragments into the engine. I used a Slide Hammer and Bearing Puller Set, 5 Piece from Harbor Freight to pull the old pilot bearing. The "wet paper towel" trick sucked and just got dirty clutch water everywhere. Buy the tool or borrow it from a friend and save yourself the pain. It comes right out. Mine was very worn compared to the new one and it was starting to show cracks. Soak it in engine oil for a day in case yours has lost all of the oil to the plastic bag it comes in. You may be tempted to get the Nismo aftermarket pilot bearing but local mechanics have told me that they fail prematurely and if they do fail they do far more damage than a failed OEM pilot bushing. I mentioned this before but the Super Coppermix Twin clutch friction disks are in fact directional. The subtle coning of the fingers in both cases should be facing towards the center of the hub. So the coning on the rearmost disk closest to the pressure plate should go towards the engine, and the one closest to the flywheel should be flipped the other way. Otherwise when you torque down the pressure plate it will be warped and if you attempt to drive it like this it will make a very nasty grinding noise. Also, there is in fact an orientation to the washers for the pressure plate if you don't want to damage the anodizing. Rounded side of the washer faces the pressure plate. The flat side faces the bolt head. Pulling the transmission from the transfer case you need to be extremely careful with the shift cover plate. This part is discontinued. Try your best to avoid damaging the mating surfaces or breaking the pry points. I used a dead blow rubber hammer after removing the bolts to smack it sideways to slide it off the RTV the previous mechanic applied. I recommend using gasket dressing on the OEM paper gasket to try and keep the ATF from leaking out of that surface which seems to be a perpetual problem. Undoing the shifter rod end is an absolute PITA. Get a set of roll pin punches. Those are mandatory for this. Also I strongly, strongly recommend getting a palm nailer that will fit your roll pin punch. Also, put a clean (emphasis on clean) towel wrapped around the back end of the roll pin to keep it from shooting into the transfer case so you can spend a good hour or two with a magnet on a stick getting it out. Do not damage the shifter rod end either because those are discontinued as well. Do not use aftermarket flywheel bolts. Or if you do, make sure they are exactly the same dimensions as OEM before you go to install them. I have seen people mention that they got the wrong bolts and it meant having to do the job again. High torque impact wrench makes removal easy. I used some combination of a pry bar and flathead screwdriver to keep the flywheel from turning but consider just buying a proper flywheel lock instead. Just buy the OS Giken clutch alignment tool from RHDJapan. I hated the plastic alignment tool and you will never be confident this thing will work as intended. Don't forget to install the Nismo provided clutch fork boot. Otherwise it will make unearthly noises when you press the clutch pedal as it says on the little installation sheet in Japanese. Also, on both initial disassembly and assembly you must follow torque sequence for the pressure plate bolts. For some reason the Nismo directions tell you to put in the smaller 3 bolts last. I would not do this. Fully insert and thread those bolts to the end first, then tighten the other larger pressure plate bolts according to torque sequence. Then at the end you can also torque these 3 smaller bolts. Doing it the other way can cause these bolts to bind and the whole thing won't fit as it should. Hope this helps someone out there.
