I recently bought myself a PFC and it looks like it will be a week or 2 before i get the time and money to get it dyno'd and tuned for my cars mods and our fuel quality.

Now i'd like to use the PFC asap but i'm concerned about the fact that its base maps, to the best of my knowledge, are for 100ron fuel and therefore may be a little too agressive.

Can anyone tell me a way that i can account for this and "detune" the base map myself so that the PFC will run safely until i get it on the dyno.

From what i've heard i probably want to pull some timing out and throw in a little more fuel, but as i'm still learning the tuning side of things i dont want to do ANYTHING without some good reliable advice.

So to summerise, i'm not looking to tune for more power, just more reliabilty.

Can anyone help?

Ok i have a little more info. Apparently the Apexi base map is ok as far as the fuel maps go but i have been informed that the timing is a little too aggressive.....

so to rephrase my q.... whats the best way to retard this? make a change across the board or just from specific spots? if so how much of a change... 1 deg at a time or a few? anyone?

Patience, Messiah-sahn.

SERIOUSLY - just wait 'til you can get it on a dyno. Ping is BAD, mmmokay. Don't risk the cylinder head or the pistons coz you can't wait a couple of weeks.

Ask if you can watch the tuning, ask them to explain how to tweak settings small amounts, if you find it's pinging/knocking on a freak hot day or something. Find out how much a given fuelling change affects A/F ratios at given rpm/load points etc. - so you can add or pull-out fuel if need be in the future.

I'm most-likely getting a PowerFC soon too (R33 GTS-T) - can you tell me how it goes, what you paid etc.? - Did you get the handset with it?

Bah i hate waiting when i hve a new toy.... but i guess i'll have to....

As for the PFC. Got it from nengun about a week ago... Cost me 1118 with hand controller in total including shipping. took about 5 days from order to delivery.

Very cute little unit, with a bloody useless instruction manual unless you can read jap kana.

Install takes about 20 mins and only requires a number 10 spanner (although a socket is less tedious in places) and a philips head screw driver.

Only real downside i can see is that the pfc doesnt sit flush in the factory ecu mount. The factory mount has 2 dimples (one on each rack) that sits flush with 2 depressions on the factory ECU. the PFC does not accomodate these.

I left the top bracket off to allow the HC cable to be left plugged in but used the bottom bracket to rest the PFC on. It can still be wiggled a little but sits pretty snuggly and i used a little velcro tape to make sure it stays anchoured to the chassis.

If i left anything out let me know

DANG that's a good price Messiah ! ! :D

Is the HandController cable long enough to mount the H.C. anywhere you want on the dash? Have you played widt teh HC interface yet? is it usable without knowing Japanese?

Noice work in anycase. :headspin:
