In NSW these days you can get up to 650cc on your L's/P's, depending on the power to weight ratio. CBR's and other sporty bikes are hard to learn on, and its even difficult to complete the P's test at the RTA as they don't have that great a turning circle.

If you have never ridden before, I would recommend a dirt bike to begin on. As said by Lepperfish, you can get used to the in the dirt, they have a easy/upright riding position and are easy to control at slow speeds. Also if you drop a dirt bike, it isn't going to damage it as much as a nice new road bike.

I did my NSW L's in 2002. I had never ridden before, around 6yrs driving cars. First bike was a ZZR250. Second bike was a ZXR750 L2. I rode the ZXR250 and CBR250RR.

The ZXR250 was much more responsive than the ZZR, very quick and braked well, and both are uncomfortable after an hour and a bit. The difference between the ZXR and the CBR is much of a muchness, ie. stuff all.

The guys that said the Kawasaki is just wider have hit the nail on the head. You won't have any dramas learning on either of the bikes. Just like when you bought your R33, you just have to use the throttle in proportion to your ability and experience. There are guys here that learned to drive in a GTSt.

Boj01 said that the sports bikes suck when doing the P's test. He is 100% spot on. Rent a CB250.

:) Enjoy bikes, they are awesome. I've never felt the same feeling of speed and fragility as I did on my bike. Then you can join the club of riders that insist on referring to cars as 'cages'. :(

mmm glad someone brought up bikes :(. Brings back memory's of riding every single weekend. I agree with some of the others, learn to ride up the bush or even in some's paddock. I learnt on my CR 80 and i crashed way to many times and suffered almost as many injuries and thats with just trees and the ground to hit. Hell, even spend 500 bucks on a piece of Shyt trail bike and thrash it till it dies. The skills u learn could safe your life.

o and id go the cbr250rr

once you get a bike every other car seems slow (hehe maybe not all)
