Hi everyone,

I recently bought an R33 GTS that came with an 'electronic spoiler' that activates from the dash with two buttons & 'spoiler up' & ' 'down' written on them, that lowers part of the front bumper (I'm guessing to help add to the downforce?) and for some reason only lowers when I'm not in gear (It automatically goes back up when you get into gear) or sometimes it won't lower at all.

I'm not sure if all R33s have this or not, so my question is whether anyone else knows what I'm talking about & why it will only lower when I'm not driving the car

I'm very confused with this thing so any feedback is much appreciated

Im guessing you've got a GT Auto Spoiler, i got one to, on my R32. The spoiler will only come down when your not in gear and your hand brake is up (i'm guessing this is so you can wash it when your car is parked). The only other time the spoiler will come down is once you have reached and gone over 70km/h (listen for a electric motor sound soon as you hit 70km/h and thats the spoiler coming down), it will automaticly come back up once you have slowed down to 50km/h or slower. You can lock the spoiler so it doesn't come down by pushing the 'spoiler up' button and it will not come down automaticly any more and the button will stay stuck in, if you push the button again it will pop out again and go into auto mode but if your going over 70km/h and you just disengaged the lock mode, to put it back down you have to push the 'spoiler down' button. Turn your radio off and listen to the spoiler activating and deactivating by going over 70km/h and then slowing down to under 50km/h, its pretty cool

Hope that explains your question :)

Alright! Thanx for the explanation man real helpful. just anotha question... Is it for added downforce while driving like I think it is or is it for sumthin else? thanx again man

Yeah i think its for extra down force which gives you better handling and stability at higher speeds. I remember watching the Porsche Carrera Cup racing on tv a while ago and they reported that the lip on those cars give them up to 30% better handling apparently at high speeds and whilst they corner. The GT Auto Spoiler also looks good when it comes down watch for the amazement on people’s faces when they see it come down :).

    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much

    • 😜 hopefully we get this instead of a new R36 GTR due to recent financial problems at Nissan. Nismo to sell a complete kit with RB26 and driveline. All starts making sense (ok maybe not) once the Nissan Leaf's (Leaves?) with stuffed EV motors/batteries hit the market cheap
    • Hi guys , have had allot of time for SAU and has helped me out heaps in the past so I thought I would give it a go , I have my QM1 white NUR for sale 1 of 156 examples built by Nissan. Serious personal messages please if interested and details will be provided , asking 500k
    • Oof. Could be worse I guess. I suppose they haven't put any effort into ally suspension parts or CF panels, seats, etc. So they could probably pull about half of that back out of the car. Not like a bunch of other EVs that already have CF everything and roll the scales at ~2t.
