not this one :)

Yeah, I was watching most of the afternoon nursing a massive hangover in the shade (under the big grand stand) and your car looked like it was only puting out 50% if that. Any problems on the day?

Troy, did you have a skid mark at the end of the front straight? I saw you brake a lil late on one lap and left a puff of smoke, was it a close call?

Not so good watching as driving, really started getting depressed half way through the day thinking about my baby all sick at home (car that is)

Oops, thats two people that saw that:) Snowman told me of the first time he went flat down the straight only too find that he was too hot for turn 1...lol, well that makes two of us:)

If i didnt lock up i would have gone close ot hammering thru turn 1, but because i pinched the brake i ran a bit wide onto the grass:( So wast really that big a moment except for the fact that it was my first flying lap and i flat spotted the front left tyre leaving me with a bad front end vibration all day:(

Was the brake lock up that bad/smokey, it didnt feel too bad, but i suppose the physical evidence i left behind tells the whoel truth:)

Its got a horrible vibration now, and its really bad under brakes...lol i drove the rest of the day on it and it was ok, it wasnt down to the canvas or anything:)

I had some *ahem* temp issues and brakes going away issues...

In the morning session 4 laps was all it took to get oil to 120 (with a cooler) and water to 110...

Plus when I was on the front straight in the morning we had a *moment* coming up on that red maserati where he was braking, I was braking... and he was slowing down faster than me... I pushed the pedal harder... and got... nothing. All I saw was dollar signs coming up towards him but he turned in just in time :) I on the other hand had the GTR sideways on the far ripple strip trying to wash of speed like a crazy bastard :P

In the arvo went out for one warm up, 2 flying and one cool down and by the end of the first flying (turn 1) I had no brakes again

How did you go with your times marcus?

I think I did something like a 1:38? Funny that last time I went out with less power and farked suspension I did 1:33...

As I keep saying, car is capable of sub 1:30, it's the operator who isn't!

Have you upgraded your pads and used racing brake fluid?

Sounds like you have cooked the pads and boiled the oil.

Did anyone take photos on the day, or have links to a website with photos?

I took a few photos but mainly just of the crashed ferrari.

That's why you should buy Castrol SRF :P

Hey Al, Castrol SRF was in mine on Sunday and still cooked 'em

I was running Endless CC-X ceramic carbon pads, and Nismo braided lines with Cusco brake cylinder stopper. Last time out at sandown was running RB74s and cooked them too, with Motul 5.1 fluid.

I believe that I have done as much as possible with the existing brake setup, and that my brake issues stem from the tiny disk so will have to look at alternatives

;)

Why did Troy get towed off?

Yeah, Troy, why did Troy get towed off?? Didn't tell me that part did you?

    • Um. No. Since Matt introduced the TIM it has become a lot easier to deal with the consequences of changing K for AFM and injector swaps. Then, tuning is a f**king doddle. No-one needs to know or care how many grams of air are flowing or any other bullshit. Need more fuel in a cell? Add more fuel. Need more timing in a cell. Add more timing. Need to adjust any of the other tables for warm up and so on? No harder than anything else. Sure - it's not an ECU system for starting from scratch on an arbitrary engine. But then.....it was never supposed to be, not recommended for, and almost never used that way. So.... On your engine, in particular, Nistune/Nissan OEM is about as sophisticated and difficult as banging 2 rocks together. Those ECUs are primitive and simple. There is nothing difficult there. I learnt Nistune from scratch, created new maps with extended axes, interpolated/extrapolated the original maps onto them and tuned my RB20 (basically the same ECU as your 26 ECU) all by myself, more than 20 years ago. And that was long before even TIM.
    • Set of knee pads for a R34. Will fit every model I think. Comes with everything except the rubber covers for the bolt holes. Still in great condition. You will need to drill holes to mount these or use double sided tape. I can do free shipping and will be shipping from the Netherlands with tracking.
    • Nistune needs something like an entire excel spreadsheet in which you build an abstraction layer that converts everything from real units you can actually measure into all of the various tables. The number of unexpected dependencies hiding in how the Nissan ECUs do math is a pretty impressive optimization trick for 8-bit MCUs but good god is it awful to actually work with in practice.
