So as you've mostly prolly noticed by now, I'm the proud new owner of an R34 GT-T, having never owned an import before, or even a real performance vehicle, I've just got a few Q's that I'd like to throw around :)

Firstly, I do plan to end up doing quite a bit of work to my girl, bigger turbo, FMIC, ECU etc etc, but I'm assuming its a better idea to get as much of it done at once, and have it all tuned together, yah? For the moment at least, I'd like to get a bit of an exhaust put on (cat back, for my wallet's sake), just so she doesn't sound as boring as a commodore for now :) I'm mostly looking for recommendations on where to go to get this done, I'm not after anything thats gonna shake the earth, but something with a nice sounding note, and performance in mind would be good. I'm quite a fan of the big cannon exhausts, the sort that points up and out, if you get my drift (if not, I'll try to find pics to explain better :D). So where to go? And how much am I looking at for a decent quality kit? Also, is it reasonable to expect to be able to get a good cat back job now, and fill the rest in later? Or am I better off just getting something that does the job for now, and getting a full system put in later?

Next up, I remember in the first R34 I test drove (which was significantly more modified then mine), you could really hear the turbo spool up, it was instantly noticable within the car, and was one of the things that really turned me onto the R34. However I don't get that anywhere near as much in mine, and knowing unfortunately little about the more intricate workings of turbos, I'm curious in how you achieve this sound. Is it just a case of a bigger turbo, or are there other components that boost it up?

Anyway, sorry if the questions are a little noob, but any help/info would be appreciated :)

Well, all I can say is that I'm in the same boat. Mines as stock except for a pod filter fitted by the previous owner. The pod makes the spool noise and factory recirculation valve sound "interesting". I've heard good things about autotech, mercury motorsports and Millenium Motorsports. I'm yet to have any performance mods but they've come well recommended.

CES have also been recommended for exhaust to me for my car.

PM me if you want to hear the difference just a pod makes to an R34. I'm on brisbanes south side

hey hey

welcome to the r34 clan!!

got pics of your car?

try to get a full exhaust done,, i.e turbo back,, the factory exhaust is very restrictive,

i'm also available if u ever need a hand with ur r34 or any other info,, mine is a series II r34 ,,,

me is also on the south side

afro

Good to see another 34!

I agree get a turbo back exhaust done first...I'd recommend getting the dump pipe off BATMBL in the for sale section. You'll find that quite a few local exhaust places can build you a decent exhaust for not too much money. CES will do an excellent job, but you will pay for it though.

Hoping to get my GTT on the road late April.... ah the import wait....

I remember getting quoted approx $2k for a full CES zorst, apparently excellent...24kw

I ended up getting http://www.jackbeedham.com.au/ to put on a full custom system

with twin dumps for $1k. Made the RB25DET sound great and spool lot faster.

Others that I've heard good things about for zorsts are Rob Bliss @ Geebung and Drift King @ Aspley.

I'd like to get turbo back done, and about $1k sounds like a decent price, though I'm trying to save for alarm & stereo at the moment. I might just have to save my pennies and do it properly.

I'm also a southsider, and I'll most likely be out and about tonight, I don't know if friday nights are big at all, but I'm up for any excuse to go for a run :P So if any of you guys do want to hook up for a little meet and greet (R34 represent!) send me a msg and we can organise something.

Congratulaions on your purchase.

Let me know when you get your zorst fitted. Interested in cost and performance increase.

Hey rich, where abouts northside you live? I'm up near Morayfield area. Would be good to see another sedan.

My drive is a 2001 R34GTX-T Sedan.

Exhaust you say.......well that's all you had to say. Bring it in to me tomorrow if you like and I will get a quote done up.

We have one of the best exhaust fitters working for us ATM. If you get the dump pipe from BATMBL we can do everything from there back, new cat, the lot. I will even purchase the cat at trade price for you off the side *wink* so you will save a couple/few hundred dollars as I can buy a 3 inch hiflow cat for less than half what you would at an exhaust shop. The cannon is another story, I can get them in all different brands, shapes, sizes. And once again less than half retail so you can even save more again.

EG. Mirage (GF's) Full system including extractors, new cat, 2 1/4 inch, huge double wall stainless cannon on the back at 45 degrees. all for just $400.

I cannot pass on the same kind of discount but I can probably knock that $1000 down to $600-$700 for you.

CES make the best exhaust - BAR NONE. I have never seen exhaust that good before.

They cost a friggin fortune. like $3000 for a full system or something like that.

PM me if you are interested.

Phwoar... now thats a tempting offer :P I actually usually work weekends, but give me some time to put some cash aside and I might come see you, ok? I assume that we're talking at least half decent brands here? :)

Awesome to hear that you got a r34!!!

I just got mine finally last friday so im pretty excited and looking forward to adding a few mods also. I'm also in the same kinda boat as you as i don't know too much about the whole modding side.

Keep me posted on what you decide and end up doing to your new baby!!

Well, pipe is pipe, so I won't go there but it really goes off what we can get from our supplier. We deal through pretty much everyone from undercar to proex to walker for basic stuff. They can get their hands on a huge range of performance brands. I'm not too cluey on what some of the decent brands of mufflers are for performance stuff as we don't get that many requests but if you name what you want, I should be able to get it. And seeing as though we are an exhaust shop also, we get unbelievable discount on exhaust parts.

Quick question.....for anyone....

Can anyone tell me what you would pay for a 3" hi-flow catalytic converter? Minus fitting of course, but that only takes half an hour.

I'll give you the figure to divide it by.

Short and long.....gimme some brands, I'll wave my wand and see what I can do. Just to re-cap on another post though, the offer might not last long as I told my boss to go f#$k himself the other day and we are only just on speaking terms at the moment. It should be ok but if I die.....avenge me!

nah just kidding. It should be ok but be quick. I can at least buy you parts on my 2 weeks notice lol.

Hmmm....

Well I agree with the Jack Beedhams...he does all my cars now, including the ones I work on for others.

As for Rob Bliss, example rather than I heard from a mate...had a car go back there 4 times for bodging welding (I could have done better and I am not ticketed), found out that on the 4th time they sent it up the road to Midas, next to Drift King Geebung.

Drift King Aspley are now ADD, and I have made enough comments of my own re this place...all show and no....

there is no particular model that is suited to a 34...you can get whichever you so desire. I have a HKS mushroom pod which I like, but apexi, trust etc will all do the same job and provide the "turbo spooling" sound.

Yeah, mine has some generic brand one (it does the job) but make sure u don't get the "not for use on forced induction vehicles" one that sells for $40.

As for the installation, it should be pretty straight forward but you may want to look at the CAI boxes available on these forums. For about $120, u get a nice enclosure for the pod that incorporates parts of the factory airbox. These allow the advantages of the pod minus most of the hot engine bay air.

If only the previous owner didnt throw out my original airbox...

Also check the hoses that return to the airbox. There are two small hoses (diameter wise) in my engine bay that have been blocked cos I think they used to go to the airbox so you may need to do some blocking yourself.

But a guarantee, you will hear the turbo spool up (from a distance too) and the factory recirc valve will sound loud.

First thing is Welcome to the 34 owners list.

Exhaust's are always a good place to start on the 34 the standard ones are so restrictive. the cat backs are OK but the front pipe is crap fpr flow . That said the cat back will improve the performance from the stabndard one just depends how much you want to spend.

We got a full cat back Kakimoto exhaust to suit the 34 in stanless for about $700 from JMS. it fitted perfectly it was second hand but was in perfect condition. It looked great and was alot cheaper than the local one available.

As for the Pod it really doesn't mater any less restrictive air filter is better even using the original Air box and a different insert, but currently I use a Apexi pod which is adaquate.

if you've got any questions just PM me

Cheers

Chris.
