Hey guys,

I have a 94 gts-4 skyline. Its recently imported and had a cr@p stereo in it. So i began to replace componants. I used the head unit install guide, top stuff. That went smoothly, then i discovered at an earlier date i had blown upo all 4 ic's in my head unit ( the built in amp) so i hooked up an amp i had to run the speakers. I got decent cabling- triplke insulated stinger rca's and triple insulated shnider (or how ever u spell it) amp wiring kit. I did this cause i had heard that engine noise on r33's can be a problem in aftermarket stereo's. Im looking for some advice about what could fix the problem. Should i run the rcas down another side of the car? Any advice would be helpful,

Thanks in advance

Pete

power cables should not be run Parallel with rca's clean all earths that come from deck and to the amp, check that your bat is clean and free from crap, change your sappressor on the altornator. See how that goes, also i have found if you have your gain turned up to far on the amp it will cause unwantied shit noise

you should get no engine noise whatsoever on an R33 if your cabling is wired correctly, even with relatively cheap face unit.

Just try moving your wiring around. Otherwise quite likely to be the amp. Is it sitting near the fuel pump in your boot??

Where abouts is the fuel pump in the boot - on the right?

My engine noise is driving me crazy. I have RCAs run down the left side of the car, noise supressor on RCAs, noise supressor on amp but still heaps of noise.

Would getting shielded RCA cables and running them down the middle help?

the amp is decent- i think. Its an older pioneer one- not sure on the model code, but hasnt been a problem when i have run it previously in my old vl. The amp is screwed into the sub box on top, and it just sitting in the boot. If the fuel pump is the thing on the right hand side of the boot, under the plastic cover- no it isnt, the sub is on the left hand side, the gap is slightly larger so the sub box can be pushed back further, using less space. The earth on the head unit is located im the transmission tunnel, right ner the shifter. Could that be the problem? it isnt as noticable when i only run the sub and no speakers. The noise also increase pitch (like how high the noise is) as my revs gain.

any help is appreciated

thanks

Pete

    • I mean, if you were to move the jacking points away from the original location, that is, away from the wheels and closer to the centreline of the car, then it will be more likely to overbalance and tip off the supports. Same as we talked about before. I was talking about moving for-aft. If the sill is bent outward or inward, then the car would obviously look unstraight from the outside. Hopefully that hasn't happened either. Again, you can do comparative measurements from the chassis rails to see if there is much deflection.
    • Can you elaborate what you mean with your first sentence? I meant move as in the bulge kinda seemed like it got pulled "outward" meaning it got pulled down and to the side with the jacking rail itself, so the load bearing bulge now sits lower than usual and is not level with the sill on the other side of the jack point. Either that or the jacking rail just got pushed in a good bit.
    • As well as being risky WRT tipping off anyway. Yeah, I wouldn't expect it to move. Just measure from the rear one to the front one on the good side, then measure that same length on the wrecked side. You will find the notches in the pinchweld, and the jacking pad. Just spray a spot of marker paint or something there.
    • but any other area than the bulge you are talking about will just cave in then? The front driver side is pretty bent so I don't know if that will work the way it is now. I can still kinda make out where that bulge is/was but it looks like the position of it also changed due to all the mistreatment? Hard to tell
    • Absolutely. Look very closely at the photo (of yours) that I took my second snip of. See how the sill is thicker material right behind the pinchweld, where the two notches are? That is the factory reinforced area for lifting. That pad is supposed to carry the weight. The factory jack (go look at it, and how it interfaces with the car at the pinchweld) shows you exactly how the load is carried from the car to the jack to the ground.
