yeah in your case a defect would be getting off lightly. the gasses released from ordinary wet-cell batteries are explosive, so it probably wasn't too bad an idea anyway for an in-cabin/boot mounted battery....

the guy over at battery factory in fyshwick (bruce? from memory) is really good! how much you end up paying??

A shade over $500 i think, had it done just a few days after my first post.

As for the old battery, don't wet cell batteries generate hydrogen? hydrogen + enclosed space + spark = Hindenburg. Don't want that in my boot. It was an NRMA guy that installed the old battery too, didn't bat an eyelid when he put it in the boot all exposed. And i didn't know any better at the time.

yeah go the optima djhatton i use the D34 and its worth EVERY cent.. iv heard a few bad storys about the odessey's some ppl say all they need is to be drained fully every six month as its better for them and they will last u long time,

but i havent heard a bad thing from optima yet and im a happy customer
