I've noticed that there are a few of you on here that play guitar so I thought I'd share with you my plans for my new guitar that I'm about to embark on building. Here is my dodgy photoshop of what it should end up looking like:

I currently own an Ibanez RG guitar (had it for 10 years) and love it. I was looking at buying a second one as my band is about to start looking for gigs and I want to have a backup guitar for this. I figured that I don't have the cash to buy a decent one so I'll build it.

I should have a neck coming this week that I've purchased. My Dad's going to cut and route the body, and I'll gradually piece it together when I find bargins for each component needed.

It's going to be called Project GT-R due to the paint choice for the guitar, and so I can combine my car interest and my music interest. Carbon fibre might be used for a couple of other things as well.

Hope it's sort of interesting even for you guys who aren't muso's or not really in to guitar music.

I'd like to build a guitar but I'm quite likely to stuff it up completely.

A fixed bridge would be easier and cheaper though. I also hate floating trem but you might love it.

Hope it works out for you.

Yeah it's probably going to take a while to build due to funds etc. I'm planning to be able to get a decent piece of timber for the body probably late next month and cut it out, route out the cavities, etc and then slowly get the electronics and other hardware together when there's a bargin to be had.

Also searching for someone to make a carbon fibre pickguard, etc. That may be hard and pretty expensive, so I might have to cheap out there and just get the plastic items and maybe cover them in carbon fibre contact or something.

I just build a drum set. when i say build i mean bought. it's fun to bash, but i have no idea what i'm doing. might get a book or something.

Very cool guitar though. should make a heap and call them Phantom specials

Ha ha, nah just need to get endorsed by a company and be paid to have them built for me!

Drums are fun, I got a dodgy kit that I'm looking after for a friend. We use it for band practice cause then our drummer doesn't have to cart his around every week but it's a hunk of crap!

Re the carbon fibre pickgaurd - LTSJayce has the name of a guy who might be interseted in a one off peice of work. He recently did a top job on a CF Battery box for Jayces weapon.

He might do a one off.
