To many who question why so many new cars no longer come with a turbo engine in Japan. Simple answer behind that is, manufacturers don't need to spend the extra R&D money on the engine when there are so many tuning shops in Japan who will happily tune an MX-5, 350Z etc.  Manufacturers know owner's/enthusiasts who really wants to tune a beast will be willing to spend the extra after...and would rather take the car to a specialised tuning shop with years of experience.

I thought it was more along the lines of that turbos are very emmision unfriendly.. and that alot of the 'general public' arent a particular fan of em..

I thought we already knew that, however if a turbo engine were so important to a manufacturer's specific model line up they wouldn't have given up so easily.

wrx and evo are still turbo so i dont think its emmisions

its not being turbo thats the problem, its the design of the engine and ecu.

anyways, the mx5 would be mint if it had a famila gtr engine plugged in, they are pretty much the exact same physical size. One of these engines gave me 200hp at all 4 wheels. so in a mx5 it should be sweet!!
