found out last week that my rear right shock is leaking oil...

i was going to get all my shocks replaced and the car lowered... ferni mentioned something about getting the damaged one resealled - does anyone know anything about it? as in, if it's worth it/cost etc?

I wasnt really considering it until, the thought of putting the money (i'd save by not getting new shocks all round) towards a new plasma tv hit me...

any ideas?

Hi,

Going thru a similar process, but found nobody could do anything, basically you can wait 4 weeks for nisan to get a new standard rear shock for $181 or get a second hand one from T&H wreckers for $175 or go to pedders like I did and get a pair of theirs for $360.

Good Luck

i had the same problem, left rear was leaking real bad...i wouldnt bother with resealing, i dont even know if anyone can do it...

the chaepest option for you is get a new set for the rear(its best to get them in pairs), installed it will cost you around $350-$400. These are after market ones, most likely pedders comfort or something like that..I can recommend a very good place in rowville that can do this for you, let me know if interested.

by the way i couldnt help myself and got a set of adjustable TEINs...must say kinda hard but shite load better than standards.

yeah ppl have been hinting for me to get teins... i dunno what to do... trying to weigh up what'll shit me more:

(1) brand new house, curtains and furniture with a shitty tv when i could get a plasma

or

(2) seeing soo much damn space between my wheels and arch

i know i could just do rears but then i'd regret not getting em all done... how much were ya teins?

i got quoted 1600 of koni's all round, springs, lowering and wheel alignment... hate getting quotes... still waiting for more...

well at the time(about 4 months ago) i was looking at getting TEINs, TEIN australia had a special going for around $2100 for a set, but i managed to source some very good second hand ones for $700, and installed them myself...

by the way from personal experience i much prefer LCD to plasma TVs :)

Teins are usually way to hard for street use, unless your using your car on the track. Are yours coilovers Jetdat? what spring rates are you using?

As for LCD's they are getting better now with better response times, but still way to expensive, if we had 15k to blow i'd buy a proper HD 45" Sharp LCD, 1920x1080, but we don't have 15k :) So i figure a cheap SD plasma will do for a couple of years till a proper HD LCD/Plasma comes into our price range, then move the SD Plasma to the bedroom.. we'll see.

yeah they are coilovers, dont ask me about the rates as they were second hand, but they have a secondary coil which is supposed to be called 'helper coils' for softer ride(this is what the dude that sold them to me said anyway)...

i have driven a few lines with teins, my ones seem much softer to the others...

as for the tv, you get what you pay for.

i wouldnt touch pedders stuff... Its the devil.... I think you have a nice car and you really should just bite the bullet - spend some good money - get a good result. Rather than do half the job now and regret it... I can understand that you wanna save for puttin stuff in the house and all.... difficult situation.... Maybe try get some 2nd hand ones from SAU forums.... someone has to have sumfin

try my mate www.slidewizeimports.com

I know the owner of koni suspension... i should see what i can do

THERES MY 2 cents

found out last week that my rear right shock is leaking oil...

if you get one fixed, get all of them done at the same time.

otherwise 3 will be saggy as, and one will be nice and fresh and the car wont be sitting nicely anymore.

So going the full replacement.lowering would be a better option for $$$ spent

try centreline suspension for it.

Dunno if they'll be able to help you or not (for resealing the shock). But they had aftermarket stuff rebuilt for me.

If not they have stuff there anyway

At any good suspension dealer you should be able to get a pair of rear shocks and lowered springs brand new at a reasonable price. Try getting trade price, and if you are trying to save money, maybe go for KYB or Koni struts - roughly $250 for the pair and King Springs - $200 for the pair. If you can install these yourself, again you will save some more money. Conventional strut and spring setups are more than adequate for street use, and give a better ride than coilovers.

Thats whos going to do mine for me. Heard some good things about them here, went down and saw them and they gave me a real good price for new shocks, springs and tyres. Better than anywhere else plus the guy I spoke to was real helpfull. Just got to wait a few more weeks for the shocks to be in stock now. Can't wait to get it all done and take it through some twisties.

    • Yeah pretty impressive hey, good to see quality products not over-shooting their prices. That's what drew me to buy the hypergear turbo, just a shame I've never got the chance to see it in action
    • Thank you GTSBoy and MBS206 I have done the compression test with the motor out of the vehicle, reason for the test was to see if I needed to remove the head and do rings etc while its out. I'm in the process of respraying the vehicle and tidying up a few things. Story behind it all is I've just purchased the skyline and it was running when I got it, never drove it on the street though as I wanted to pull it down and do it all up again before registering it. the gentleman I purchased it from told me the motor has a forged bottom end and has a decent tune through it but I was going to pull the sump off anyway to see if it is a forged bottom end. that's why I thought id do a compression test beforehand.
    • Man, I'm kind of amazed that the price of the turbo has not changed in 7 years. Everything else is inflating beyond reason, but not this? Good on Tao / hypergear I guess? Anyways, good luck with the sale!
    • I'm selling my brand new, in the box, never used Hypergear ATR45 - and I had some additions I paid for a few yrs back when I purchased it. Never ended up having the rest of the money to add all the mods at once, so I just ended up slowly selling each part. I originally had it internally gated, with the dump pipe, however I found it was incompatible with what I was going to use it for, so I contacted (I think Ken) from Hypergear, and he and I messaged back and forth & he got me to ship the turbo back, where they modified it & made it externally gated, and gave me the 5 bolt dump pipe attachment for custom welding. (Photos below) This turbo like I said has never touched the inside of an engine bay, it's completely brand new, never used, been sitting in the same box it arrived in, covered in plastic & all. Below are the photos of it: And while the guys at Hypergear were making it in-shop, they sent me some photos of the process: I'm looking at selling this just because I'm in need of the money right now, and don't have plans on modifying the 34 anytime soon - and from reviews & peformance sheets, this turbo had amazing results back when I was researching. The turbo was purchased in 2018 for $1.9k, with the mods I got added on. Looking at the website now, for the same turbo they sell (ATR45SAT), with the current addons it adds up to $1830 for the turbo Current addons included: - Bolted dump adaptor - Ball bearing CHRA - Braided oil feeding line So I'm looking to possibly sell it for around $1800, with shipping included in that 1.8k, It cost me around $120 to ship - so yeah thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone was interested in purchasing. Cheers!
