Just wondering if it is possible for oil to get into coolant from turbo? Cause I checked under my radiator cap disarvo and found heaps of oil under the radiator cap but there was no trace of coolant in the sump oil. The block has been o-ringed and Im stuck for ideas were it could be coming from? Also the car still runs perfectly but ive obviously stopped driving it know. Anyone got any ideas??

Often a head gasket but it can come from a few other places. Not 100% sure about skylines but it could also be from the water pump if its corroded through (more likely to be water in the oil than oil in the water.

Not a good sign in any event. Get it checked out ASAP.

OR

take the Dodgey Brothers option and add a can of CHEM WELD.

Yeah I had the water pump replaced about 2 months ago.

Im pretty sure that it aint the head gasket as its a copper gasket.

Im leaning towards turbo as I know its on its way out. But unsure wiether it could be the prob.

I just looked at reciepts and it says Bore and Hone/ Linish crank.

Any input is GREATLY APPRECIATED cause I so want my car back soon :)

Are you sure its oil and not just the usual brown slimey sludge that builds up over time with lack of coolant changes and mixed coolant?

I can never seem to get rid of a little bit of brown slimey crap that attaches its self under the radiator cap. :)

The last powerflush appeard to help ALOT but there is still a real tinny little bit there.

The new engine also removed 80% of it but it still appears. The RB20DET had heaps of brown slimey crap.

Difference is mine never has and still doesn't use a drop of oil.

Brown. Its definantly oil. my sump level has gone down a fair bit all in one day. I check it every morning.

Engine was rebuilt 2 years ago by previous owner. But I have reciepts that I will post 2morrow. Ive changed coolant twice since ive owned it. Lat time was about 3 months ago.

1. first things first get water pump checked out!

since u only changed it 2months ago ..

or just needs a few flushes of coolant but if it is using that much oil your water temp would go up and also your oil temp would go up since they are mixing so keep eyes open for the temps if it gets too hot turn off strainght away! get it towed to your mechanic.

if water pump is fine id be looking at the block !

but if the oil was mixing with water it would be lumpy green /brown!

also before u start it in the morning open up the overflow bottle and check if any oil is sitting on top ...

put your finger in and you will be able to tell or check if you have any floaties ....

If you are sure the oil and water are mixing,

It would be the headgasket in my opinion.

Metal gaskets of anytype are useless on a street car, where the engine temp is constantly getting cycled. Great on a racecar though!

If it is o-ringed you dont need a metal gasket anyway.

Get a genuine Nissan headgasket and im sure all your water problems will be resolved.

The o-rings go around the cylinders, not between the coolant galleries/passages and oil galleries/passages in the head gasket, so oil and water can still mix at this point if the gasket lifts.

Did you use Hylomar or something on the metal gasket?

you need to pressure test coolant system to rule out coolant leak in too engine block,and take out spark plugs to see if any are super clean from coolant leaking in to cylinder.good way to check...also check for condensation from exhaust which never goes away.

a compression test should reveal if head gasket is blown, you also may be getting white smoke from exhaust.

other wise, as you said, the only other area where oil goes near coolant is in the turbo, so you can also get that looked at. If the turbo is blown, you'll also probably get smoke from exhaust also.

best way to check is comp test it

compression test won't always reveal much unless it blown at the cylinders, which it won't be as its o-ringed, well highly unlikely anyway....

copper gaskets are well known to allow seepage between the oil and water passages though at the outer edges of the gasket/cylinder/block surface.

multi layer steel gaskets aren't to bad, but copper ones can be real nightmares.

15782Image041.jpg15782Image042.jpg Dont know if they worked. They were taken with my phone so sorry about quality. The Radiator cap had been wiped clean before the photos were taken.

I forgot to mention that I blew a hose near my oil filter today which is why the coolant level is low and why I checked the level disarvo. I didnt think it would be relevant.

Im 100% its oil. Theres been blue smoke coming out my exhaust but I know thats cause the turbo is dying. Theres been no steam though either but there shouldnt be cause sump oil is coolant free. According to my stocko oil pressure guage oil pressure is lower than normal but its been like that since ive owned the car.

Just curious how the head gasket could blow if its seperate from cylinder?
