How bad is it *really* to drive a fresh import before oil change?

Recommended Posts

oh but dont forget that your car WILL be driven on and off the ship, in other words who knows if its been thrashed or not. A lot of rumors about wharfies taking imports for a good thrash, not sure how true it is considering the risk of an accident.

^^^^^^^exactly.... i can't believe everyone forgot that UNLESS it is being sent in a container the wharfies will have a nice time cold starting your import and thrashing it around the docks and taking out of the yard to you.

Anyone know the rights of the owner of the car as to being able to enter the yard to take the car out for themselves? If you offered to sign a piece of paper saying you are entering at risk to yourself and do not hold them accountable in the event you are injured or something like that and agree to be escorted... wouldn't they have to let you collect the car for yourself?

A lot of people i know and myself have seen the way the wharf workers treat the cars and it is not good at all.

Nobody has forgotten anything. The wharfies may have a bit of a go, but there is usually so little petrol in the cars that unless they make the effort to top it up, they can't get very far.

The point is, why add yet one more variable -- one more opportunity for the thing to go bang -- because your a tight arse and won't spend $50 towing it?

yeah .... sorry worded it poorly..... meant i can't believe no-one up until then mentioned the bit about the wharfies

Spose if you wanted to drive the car from the docks you could always find a bit of flat concrete or bitumen off the road and do an oil change there? You would have to be make sure you put the old oil once drained out into the empty oil bottle and dispose of later, and make sure you don't do it on the side of the road with your legs hanging out from under the car

Changing the oil nearby could be the only way to go if the car you are importing is particularly low as a lot of tow trucks and tilt trays have trouble loading vehicles with little ground clearance, mainly an issue with bodykits though and not exhaust systems.

far out some of u guys can barely wipe ur own arses without getting onto the forum and starting a thread.........

If you think it will cause a problem....change the oil, easy to do

if you dont care, drive it anyway

i am at work and i havent seen the car yet..

when i get home i am just going to check the oil with a dipstick..

i will drive it around but i wont feed it much (if any) boost until i have changed the oil. (unless the oil in it looks good)

Check the bodily fluids and then drive it! Holly cow..........

they drove it onto the local transporter in Japan

then they drove it off the tranmsporter and into the holding yard

then they drove it from the holding yard on to the dock

then they drove it from the dock onto the car carrier

then they drove it off the boat onto the dock

then they drove it from the dock to the holding yard

If you get it picked up from the holding yard by a transporter;

they will drive it onto the local transporter

they will then drive it of the transporter and to the complier

And I'll bet THEY weren't/won't be as nice to it as you will be.
