Hows it goin guys, I was on chapel st on friday night and as usually there was quite a few vl turbos down there. Ive noticed alot of my mates always start bagging guys that drive them, and when they hear the "classic" vl turbo wooooot to to to (my attempt at spelling that massive cooler sound lol) they say stuff like wat a wanka etc. I dunno personally i love vl turbos originally wanting one as my first, i reckon they look pretty good, sound mad, and from what ive seen at calder on friday nights go really gooood. What do u guys reckon of them?????

VL turbos r stupidly quick for how old they are. My mate at school is like ohh a supra will beat the shit out of that peice of holden crap. Little does he realise the price of his supra could buy me a vl turbo calais and a shit load of mods that could see me absolutely killing his stock supra. A SOHC engine that is 15 plus years old capable of producing 1/4 mile times under 12, 11, 10 and beyond has got to be something worth while. Dont listen to anyone that tells you that they are wankers cause if they had a car like that theyd be making fluttering noises all the time.

Thats my 2 cents worth.

I had one, not a bad car, not the most elegantly designed car ever but still not bad, went good as well. They are too old now but if they are completly rebuilt I love them. Having said that, I don't think I could ever go back to a VL after the skyline, overall the skyline is a better car, even considering the age difference.

I think most people would prefer a better all round performance car like a Skyline or Supra. On a track the Supra or Skyline would beat a Vl no questions asked but in a straight line the VL with a few mods ammounting up to the same ammont of a stock Skyline would beat the Supra or Skyline. It depends on what you want the car for. 1 last question, in 5-10 years time will a street driven GTR be capable of times under 10 seconds. Take the Panic VL for instance runs 8.69 on slicks though.

Thanks

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their proven reliability, predictable performance, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
    • I've previously seen people post up "dress up bolt kits" for RBs but don't remember seeing them specify the full contents. I can only really suggest you grab the verniers and start measuring, and keep in mind the cam cover and timing cover bolts are both quite specific with a wider unthreaded section where the bushes sit, that will make it hard to get aftermarket replacements which tend to be all thread (set screws) or for longer bolts a flat section with a shorter threaded section at the end
    • I believe there was a similar one posted by @duggyphresh. They were re-routing their battery positive cable in the way I am also trying to achieve. Sorry, I’m new to this forum, so was a bit late to the party by a few months and so reignited the old thread, as I wanted to know how they got on with doing it.
