changing housing fan/gasket

Hey has any1 ever had problems with their housing fan cracking(fan behind da radiator)????cause wen i got my car checked out da mechanic told me i had to replace mine.....he said eventually the whole fan will crack to pieces......

And has any1 had problem will an oil leak due to a bad gasket/loose screw..???cause mine had a slight leak causing a burnt smell every time i turned da engine off.....i tightened up da screw but is dat sufficient to fix da leak????
