Women, 4WDs and carparks....... a recipe for disaster!

Recommended Posts

i remember in the 60s/70s jeeps were about the only 4wds i saw on the roads and they were THE 4wd to own, if you owned one u were theman!

My best mate told me today that he is buying a new car. Great I say what is it?

A V10 Dodge Ram and I said what about all the costs etc. He replied "I don't care" and then with the "i am the best"Blah Bull. Yet I still like the guy but still in shock I think.

had a laugh the other day. this typical soccermum had this brand new prado with a bit more gear than the typical bullbar spotties ect, and it was unscathed. she had a hard time getting it in a carpark. good fun. serves her right

Most of you probably read this in the Courier Mail today:

THE blackspot-riddled Pacific Highway yesterday claimed another victim - this time a toddler - on the eve of a mayoral summit to try to pressure the Federal and NSW governments to upgrade the road.

The two-year-old girl from Grafton in northern NSW was a passenger in a four-wheel-drive which was involved in a head-on collision with a car towing a caravan about 10am at St Helena, south of Byron Bay in northern NSW.

Despite being in a child restraint, the girl was critically injured as the Toyota LandCruiser overturned several times and flipped over a concrete barrier before landing on an embankment.

She died at the scene as her 31-year-old mother was being airlifted to Lismore Base Hospital with serious injuries.

The three occupants of the other vehicle - two men aged 67 and 37 and a 64-year-old woman, all from Booval in Ipswich - were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital with minor injuries.

Byron Bay police Acting Inspector Greg Swindells said the two-lane section of the highway was a notorious black spot.

"It is an area that historically has collisions, especially when it rains," Acting Insp Swindells said.

Kris Wiseman, who works on a macadamia nut farm at St Helena, said locals were all too familiar with the "sickening" sound of sirens echoing over the hill.

"I heard the sirens today and my stomach turned," she said.

"To hear that it's a little girl who has died this time is even more heart-wrenching."

The accident happened as northern NSW mayors prepare to gather in Ballina tomorrow for a summit on the state of the Pacific Highway.

Under current plans, the highway will not be upgraded to a four-lane dual carriageway until 2025. Federal Transport Minister John Anderson recently raised the controversial spectre of a toll to fast-track the $9 billion project.

Northern NSW mayors whose shires straddle the highway have called the summit to push for the upgrade to happen sooner rather than later.

Northern Rivers Regional Organisation of Councils president Ernie Bennett said while a toll road was an unpalatable option, fatalities would continue unless the highway upgrade was fast-tracked.

"Four hundred and thirty people have lost their lives on that highway in the last 10 years," Cr Bennett said.

"If all those people died in a terrorist attack, there would be national outrage, but no one seems to be doing anything about it."

Cr Bennett said Mr Anderson and NSW Transport Minister Michael Costa could not attend the summit, but had agreed to send representatives.

Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke has been invited to the summit.

A tragic accident and my condolences to the mother. Can you blame the roads? Yes. Can you blame the bad handling of a 4WD? Yes. This combination is deadly and all too often is ignored by some in this argument. They are trucks not cars.

Well a friend of mine's mother rolled their Prado. She was looking directly into the sun the visor wasn't quite enough so she was shielding with one hand as well, went off the road a little, swerved to get back on the road and over she went. Pretty average stuff.

My car finally goes in on the 10th of May to get repaired. Such a long wait! Got some N1 slots to fit also so it will have a slightly different look too. Just can't wait to get the bloody big scratch fixed up, makes me look like a bad driver :)

i think i saw you at indro today jlnewton..did you get out of the way of an ambulance? beutiful car :)

hmm, now i get to see the argument from the other side. my parents have told me they have just bought an ml320. uuughhh! i see it tommorow..now i get to see what its like from 'the other side'

This almost seems off topic now  but I got my car back today, front bar repaired and a couple of N1 slot chucked in for a different look and a little more airflow to keep those temps down. Finally my car is a scratch free zone again!

I hate 4WDs and the inconsiderate / oblivious pricks that drive them with every fibre of my being!

However bad drivers, no matter what they're in, will still do the job...

You should need a special license to buy one of those stupid vehicles. I have never understood the point of a 4WD in the city, wtf is it for ???

Most people I know use them cause they want the 7 seats/extra load area but are too cool to buy a van

They need to be classes as a Heavy Vehicle/Special Vehicle or whatever it takes, with appropriate licence requirements, maybe that will keep some (but sadly not all) off the wankers outa 'em......

Most people are only "commuters" anyway, very few of the people we share the roads with on a daily basis %-wise are true "drivers" but as someone so famously said in a post on SAU last yr, it's cheaper for the Gov't to let people continue to die in "accidents" that truly address the issue & TEACH PEOPLE TO DRIVE!! >_<:O

LOL TO ALL

IM liking this post for complaining, telling stories about women (the typical idiodic women you men love to complain about) 4wd's (the tall ugly ones) and normal bad arse driving

i think im going to be a bad driver when i get my license, you know, stay off the footpath type, im trying to get better and more aware ok?!

but im glad this post turned out nice and fat for the ranting manics :(

hahaah

Oh yeah to make myself feel at home

GOD no way man! my dad is a bad driver too! he purposly has bad habits that he completly tries to push on me when im learning....:D what a bad example

Rant over

Post from last year? ...

Some drug induced post from a female who hasn't got their license? ...

I read the first post... then noticed the date... knew it was going to have pointless comments :(

Isn't it time groups got together about this and decided to do something? I mean realistic groups who consider driver training a good idea, not making it so if you're headlight is out on one side you lose your license.

I have no idea how to put together such a lobbying group or whom to speak to about it, but it would be far more constructive then just making the same posts over and over.....

hey all

ive had similar experiences, the day i got my r34 a copper in a hilux wanted a park and saw me comin out, so he stayed behind me, another car pulled up beeping and shit so i just let them through. as i reversed out he then proceeded to reverse back, didnt see me and bang hit the right hand 1/4 pannel. right near the fuel cap . anyway he proceeded to tell me it was my fault and that it would never stand up that it wssnt coz he was a copper. i took a picture of the one way sign on the road, sent it to my insurance and bam got it all fixed for nuffin. what a dik

anyway the other thing was as skool in yr 12 the parents were complaining about student drivers playin up in their cars and nearly causing accidents, the truth was that the parnets would pull out on us and cause us to hit the ankors and swerve. so we formed a commity about it and filmed the soccer mums and took pictures. showed em to the head of the skool and bam, no problem anymore i complete memo went out to all parents to be more careful when picking up children. they still complained it was us tho. and i wont lie their was some wankers at my skool. but most of us knew we would get raped for doin anythign stupid so we didnt.

anyway that my rant

sorry
