Hey.

Plenty of you all will read this and think your a dreamer, or what the hell for, but I am after a brand spanking new RB26 for my GT-R32. it will take quite a few months to gather the money. But…

I’m seriously thinking about building a drag car. I know its going to take a few years, but I’m up for that. I have been looking around from site to site, forum to forum looking for different engines and the performance they can offer I haven’t had much luck either. I’m talking about a full engine here, not just the block and head. I want the pistons, valves, cams, crank, the works. A few of my mates say TURST, HKS, MINES do that sort of stuff, but I haven’t seen them or read about it either.

Right now I’m slowly gathering and putting bolt on equipment on my existing engine, so when I get the money for a proper engine, ill throw it all on that.

I am willing to spend huge amounts of money to get the huge amount of power.

At the moment I’m thinking MINES. If anyone knows any better and where I can get something like this from or who to talk to and who can help me import/buy one, I’m up for suggestions.

Thanks

Justin

i was also thinking about getting a N1 engine, over sized, forged pistons and so forth. but theres too much stuffing around, tracking it all down, waiting for parts and stuff like that.

the mines is a gold like colour. stock looking but an RB is still an RB

it may sound stupid, but im hoping to get a lazy 850bhp. thats with a full interior. im hoping to crack low a 10 with luck a verry high 9

Take a look at leewah's car on these forums, has around the same power you are after and has run a 10 second quarter with potential to do 9's, and openly shares the specs of his engine.

If you really want an off the shelf engine, Prospec in the UK can arrange to send you a Top Secret built engine with the following specs

TS RB26 2.8L Complete Bare Engine

Specifications Engine: RB26DETT N1 with HKS 2.8L Kit

Piston: HKS Step 2 (88mm)

Conn-rods: HKS H-shape

Crankshaft: HKS Step 2

Studs: TOP SECRET

Ported: Fully done by TOP SECRET

Polished: Fully done by TOP SECRET

Camshaft: HKS 272/272 Step 2

Valve Springs: TRUST

Valve: Standard

Valve Guide: Standard

Oil Pump: TRUST Big Capacity

Oil Sump: TRUST Big Capacity with baffled.

Head Gasket: HKS t=1.2mm

Power Rating: 700ps with T04Z, Engine capability is 800-850ps.

Rev Limit: 8,500rpm

Cost? A touch under $34,000 plus shipping... yes thats how expensive off the shelf engines are, and you still need to purchase turbo, intercooler, fuel system, suspension etc after you have the above engine in your posession.

To my knowledge the largest off the shelf engine mines sell is capable of 600ps. Youre looking at around $28,000 for this, and you need to ship them your existing engine, or get them to purchase on your behalf an N1 block.

For the above mentioned prices, you could find a reputable local builder and build something just as good and probably save a bit of coin in the process.

your answer lays here :cheers:http://www.otomoto.com.au/nissangtr.htm

Would cost a lot to ship an engine from japan - factor that in, but if you are up for it there are plenty of japanese workshops that can cater to your requirements. Get some back issues of HPI or Zoom as they do some features on the Jap workshops.

There are also plenty of Australian Workshops that can cater to your requirements. The best in Victoria is without doubt race pace. Ben is quite handy at building monster (or mild) engines. Specialises in RB engines, and has a 3ltr RB in his 33GTR.

godzla32 has a good point though. by saving your money and making do with minimal spending, you can then save and buy the things that you want. Unless you are mega wealthy this is the only way to get ahead...

I would never borrow money for anything except investments that offer a return. (this could mean property or shares etc...) buy a modest house / unit, dump every available dollar into it, pay it off - then you can save again + borrow to invest. if you are lucky enough to be someone who is on 100k+, use it to your advantage... generally though, even ppl on large incomes have an impressively large debt.....

(sorry for the thread hijack)

Why do you want to buy the engine off the shelf? Why not get it built? Go see Ben at racepace, tell him what you want to achive and work out a plan to get there. Will be a much better idea. If something breaks or you want to change anything, you have the builder of the engine local to you who will know the engine.

...as far as a house goes. i dont even want to think about it! my old man works for devine homes, and my folks are just getting a house built out in the sticks some where now. so hopefully i might be licky enough to kick them out there... but who knows, im 20 now, and mabe in about 5 years time i might be ready to get a house, and mabe a missus. i work about 50+ hrs a week, on a pritty decent wage. i have the car ive wanted all my life, and now i wanna make something of it.

but the last couple of days i have been looking around. and i think i might buy a new N1 block and start from scratch, or get some RB26 from a R34 and work the hell out of it, and then slam it in to a R32... oh-ho-yeah... also, my mate is building a 1972 celica, the old TA22, and is going to throw a 351 into it and he says hes gonna get a lazy 500BHP from it. so i want something to keep up to him too.

slaker, if you are looking to put out that sort of power at the engine, then it is a snap! taking 500hp and converting it to KW makes it 372 kw that your friend with the TA will be making.

it is pretty widely known that a GTR can safely run 350rwkw (or around 430 engine kw) if it is in good mechanical condition and fitted with a pair of good low-mounts.

See PM.

I must back up godzla32 and say that blowing truckloads of cash on doing up cars is silly - you dont ever get the money back.... invest and make your money work FOR you :P

TA22 with a 351 = shit

TA22 with a SR20 = yay

TA22 with a 13b = yay

Sorry but it would handle like a dog.

I know I'll get flamed for this but to me a GTR being built as a 1/4 mile car is a waste. Why not just put on a nice pair of low mounts, be happy with 300kw and do some club racing? :P

I agree with all the above, but would ad that I've heard of a TA22 runnign 4.0 toyota V8 and turbos :)

agree about the 1/4 v's circuit work / club racing ;)
