Hi all,

A few weeks back now I bought the cold air box from UAS as I really cbf making one up. The page said to specify whether or not you have a front mount (which I do, and I did specify it on my order form) and I thought it would be to remove the hole for the intercooler pipe that is now rerouted in front of the engine. Now I haven't put the partition in yet, but there's a big hole where I think the old pipe was supposed to go. Have I been sent the wrong one?

There is a picture of the box on UAS site here - mine is identical to this but with an elongated hole in the top middle:

I'm also getting my car tuned at Hills on Monday and I was wondering if I should just put the partition in and leave the top cover off as the bonnet will be up. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Michael

I had the same problem with the $90 partition I got from UAS some time ago. If you want a cold air box for YOUR car you will need to bite the bullet and make one yourself. the easiest way and very effective too is to use closed cell foam sheet with a reflective film on one side and adhesive on the other. its easy to work with and because its fairly soft and bendy it can scrunch in to fill all the little gaps around the edges and bottom. If you make another one a mirror image and stick them together you have a partition about an inch thick with reflective foil inside and out and plenty stiff enough to do the job.

Hey Nick,

I just tried to PM you, but your inbox is full. If you could find out for me whether or not I got the right box, that would be great. I'll be at Hills on Monday, which I think is in the same suburb (I'm not from Sydney, so I'm not too sure though), so I could possibly get it swapped for the intercooler version.

Cheers,

Mick

Mick... inbox cleared... hills its in the same block of factorys as UAS.

Was it a fibreglass or carbon airbox you got?

I will check whats in stock... if u run into trouble I have a carbon one that i ordered which just arrived to suit a FMIC but i havent fitted it.... if u want one i will leave it with john and get him to work something out with u exchange wise.

hope that helps

Nick

I got a fibreglass one as I am a cheap arse :)

Thanks for the offer, but I'm sure you'd want the airbox more than me. I don't mind waiting for another fibreglass one. I mean I've had this fibreglass one for a couple of weeks now and still haven't fitted it.

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks guys, I went in to UAS today and handed over the wrong part and they're going to send me the right one tomorrow.

(Totally OT, but I just have to tell you all)

I was also at Hills today and got my car tuned.

When I turned up the car had 119rwkw, which is absolutely terrible. The problem was that the adjustable cam timing was disconnected, so it was good down low, but shocking up top. Hooking this back up pushed it up to around 160rwkw with the cam gear set at -2 degs retarded. After the Super AFC was tuned I ended up with 177rwkw. I'll post the dyno sheet up if anyone's interested. The cam gear makes it interesting actually. There's a slight dip in the power curve.
