Some help and info for new (and old) 34 owners. Out of this thread I hope members can post notes on mods/pics and organise another R34/ Skyline meet. As everyone knows it’s a great way to compare notes and chew the fat.

Just been reading Firefrog’s thread on 34 mods and the post on the 34 cruise. Spewing I missed the cruise as I have only just got back from overseas. Seeing there's a few new 34's on their way to Vegas and some already here I thought I'd lend my 2c worth on the topic.

I have probably the first 34 complied under the new SEVS laws in QLD. It was almost the first in Oz but as we all know delays with importing go hand in hand. The point I'm getting to is that I have been in the exact position most new 34 owners are in now (ie. totally stock 34 with a view to modify). I had to wait twelve months for my car to arrive, so by he time it did arrive I had done my fair share of research on 34 mods and insurance etc, before I started handing over my hard earned dollars. As with most things; a good plan is can help you save $ and stay on track to a final goal (sorry if I sound like a textbook here). I have had some good ups and downs with my ride so far and although I'm no expert I'll do my best to answer queries if anyone has any.

So far I have been around to a few workshops and dealt with various parts peddlers. My car has had some noticeable gains in power / handling / and entertainment with what I've done yet it’s still a manageable daily driver (so far). I have from the beginning kept a record of rw Kw power output in relation to my mods and look to be documenting another dyno run in a few weeks. I'm a bit coy on the power output at the moment as I have some ignition problems which is why I have parts on order. (Mod list below)

But for my 2c worth to all the new 34 owners out there:

For those out there on the beginning of the modifying trail. The best thing to do is drive your standard 34 around as much as you can before submitting to your modifying cravings. Iron out any creases you have (ie surfacing problems) before any mods and get a good feel for your car in stock trim. You'll understand your car more and appreciate your mods a lot more when you’re finished. I have had a great time with my 34 so far, as will you; welcome to the club.

With all modifying when it comes down to the crunch its all a matter of taste, dollars and (at least in the beginning) simple mechanical principals. Know what you want to achieve with your car first and move on from there. In my case a daily driver with better handling (low and tight), great sound in/and out (loud and louder) with a good mechanical platform of power to build from (better suck and blow airflow). My car is still pretty tame in a ‘modified sense’ but it’s a champion to drive and kicks hard when I want it to. I researched, compared and had quoted every part on the car and have the satisfaction of knowing I chose every part on the car (good or bad). In the end not every piece on my ride is the best on the market but dollars wise the money was spent where I thought it would count (ie. you may find a better aftermarket 3” front/dump pipe than mine but for $250 it shits on the standard set up and is can be half the cost of others). For the most part my goal with my modifications is to allow me to continue to add power with out having to upgrade the same modifications a second time.

Anyway enough of that; I woudn't mind talking to those who've done the Power FC and FMI with their 34's and I'm keen to check out some of the other 34's around to compare mods and results etc... So if people are keen to meet up again – post up your reply.

Cheers

Clint

I think R34 has a little more interest.. as they are different.

rather than driving around in a week in QLD and I could see every possible variation of R33 out there, stealth wings, giant wings, this set of rims, this front bar, this kit, this exhaust system, this tint, this set of stickers.

not saying they are crap, just saying that they are the majority and everybody sees them every day. one of the reasons i sold the R33.. even my mates started buying them :ghost:

Seems to be the way things are going.. people *seem* to be heading down the 32 or 34 path because there are more 33's on the road in Brisbane anyway. I was going to get a 33 but the 34 sedan came up at a good price so I went that. 34GTT's prices are lowering so I guess its inevitable. The 32's got the whole "Godzilla" look bad boy racer thing and it does look more compact. 32's seem to be steadying in value while 33's seem to be reducing?

A lot of people on here seem to bag 33's eg. whale, but I've owned 2 and I like them also. I'd be happy with 1 of each

33's are teh shiz and.......I will let the word slip (im buying another one), I will prove to you all that they certainly arent a "whale" and best of all is that majority of ppl are trying to move into the 32 or 34 path meaning in a few months to a year 33's will be rare and hence the new "cool thing". I'll already obviously be cool because I realised all along that r33's are the best  (im only joking noone get offended, I think any skyline and any tough jap car (and some non jap cars) are good, it all comes down to preference)

Wasn't trying to exclude any other skyline, hence the call for a "34/Skylines" meet; I was meaning for anyone to be interested could turn up yet I was hoping to have a R34 focus as there seem to be some more around these days and a few are the way.

As 34’s have a few differences with earlier models; modifications and accessibility of parts can also differ. I thought it would be a good chance for 34 owners (old and new) to get together to pass on info and check out different mods.

And to add to the 32, 33, 34 debate:

Simply all Skylines rule. I was initially looking forward to getting a R33 until I was offered a great deal on my 34. I don’t see any whale resemblance at all with the R33. In fact I am yet to see a whale pull 180Kw on a dyno. Boiled down, each model can find its own merits over other modles. Its not a debate worth waging.

Just thought it would be a good to get some rarely seen 34’s together. Sorry if anyone was feeling excluded by the post I put up it wasn’t meant to be the case.

When did your car actually land Clint?? I apparently had one of the first plates issued according to my broker.

Well Clinton I'm glad you've made this thread, infact you can count me in on the Brissy meet up as soon as I have my GTT when it arives from Japan shouldn't be too much longer (couple of weeks hopefully)

Anyhow I met Firefrog out one night already. We went for a run down the goldcoast and had some fun. Looking foward to doing it all again. Unfortunately I can't come out and with the 33 anymore as it is now sold, just gotta wait for the 34.

We should make a list in here of all R34 owners who live in Brissy and who are interested in meeting out one night. Would make for an awesome sight I'd imagine! I know Firefrog is generally keen, as he had message me another night but I couldn't make it, so far we have;

Myth33 (soon to have 34 :) )

Anyone else?

Great to see the R34 threads... not to discount the 32's and 33's!

It's great to get specific info on the R34's

I've got some waiting to do... but count me in soon!

I used to think this a couple years ago, but now I disagree. I don't reckon R33s are the majority, I reckon R32s are now, by a longshot. I see two or three R32s a day often, lucky to see one other R33 (I'm not on the road much each day tho).

Also, there are quite a few "average" older R33s around that look kinda plain, but when people see a nice one go past they sit up and take notice. I didn't used to like the look of R33s because of all the plain ones you see, but a nice one done right can stack up to any skyline out there as far as looks in my opinion.

R34s are beautiful, and if I could have got a 34 turbo coupe in my budget I would have, no question. I once thought I'd much rather get a 32 than a 33, because for one thing they were different....not anymore, 32s are great but they're a dime a dozen, no offence :P

Yeah I wouldn't have had the budget mate...was lucky to get a 33 S2...there's no hurry, I'll get a 34 in a few years :)

Basically I own the 33 outright (no finance, no debts) but I'm a full time uni student. Once I finish uni and get a full time job it'll take me a year max to add enough savings to sell the 33 and get a 34, or less if I just get finance on the extra 10k or whatever...we'll see but I'm happy with 33 for now :P
