I am looking at fitting a HKS 3" M/Bend Exhaust to my R34 GTT as its first mod.

I have been qutoed $1500 fitted for this model but I can't seem to find any info on it. Has anyone heard of this model: HKS True Street Super Silent Exhaust ?

I have heard of some HKS Exhausts ('Dragger' model I think) that are supposed to be fairly loud, I hope that this model isn't too loud that is all.

have you spoken to a local exhaust shop? you can probably get just as good exhaust and you can choose if you want it loud or not and it should flow around the same. ask your local exhaust shop or a few, youd be suprised on the costs vs jap kits

Yeah thanks for the advice Paul but I've been down that road. The last exhaust I had fitted to my 33 was supposed to be quiet but turned out to be rather loud. That was fitted by a local exhaust place.

This time I thought I'd buy a brand name like HKS or Apexi that others have fitted and know what I'm in for. Has anyone got any sugestions for a R34 GTT? I want full system (Turbo - back).

I just fitted a full Blitz Nur V Spec system to my GTT and it has and adjustable silencer in it, so you can make it as quiet as you want or take it out and wreck your hearing :P

you should be able to get the kit for roughly the same price as the one your currently looking at. also if you have basic mechanical knowledge and skill you can fit it yourself. Matches up to all the factory mounts and hangers.

I have been told that the Fujitsubo ones are very quiet - there is one called "Legalis R" http://www.fujitsubo.co.jp/mc-prod/ that is apparently around 90dB?

I have the regalis R in my r34 gtr and its super quiet + very nice looking exhaust , all polished s/s .

Yeah I suppose its always going to be a tough one. Thats the nature of purchasing a higher flow exhaust system in that you don't know what your going to get until after you've got it

Its great you guys have helped out with some suggestions, now all I need to do is find an exhaust place in Brisbane that supplies any these Japanese brands. I have only so far been able to source the HKS one listed in my first post (new).

I believe the HKS one that I am looking at getting fitted, has a resonator on it, so maybe it will be quiet enough.

One of the custom exhausts I was quoted $2,200 fitted, I was told that it was Ceramic Coated which reduced the temperature of the exhaust gas and therefore making better flow. Makes sense to me!! Although my brain keeps telling me to forget this and go for the HKS for $1500 fitted. Descisions Descisions.

Does a resonator affect the flow that much, because its kinda pointless getting the system fitted for performance reasons if that is the case?

i have a kakimoto cat back with a hi-flow cat and dump/front pipe (3" all the way). Its fairly quiet for a full exhaust system. Its quiet on idle but can get loud when your up high in the rev range. My friend aslo has a kakimoto cat back on a gtir and thats quiet too.

if you get an older second hand exhaust chances are the baffels will be gone and the exhaust will be loud anyway.

what are your reasons that a HKS exhaust is the quietest available? is it just what you've been told? what's loud to one person is quiet to another...

i had a 3" cat-back exhaust custom made for my car and it included a 3" stainless cannon muffler and hotdog resonator. its very quiet (in my opinion). i had the option of many mufflers and could have swapped to whatever i wanted before it was welded on so i could choose how loud i wanted it. or i could have gone without a resonator if that was my preference. total cost was $540. BRAND NEW. exactly how i wanted it. that's the beauty of custom made.

if you have had bad experiences with exhausts why not get one exactly how you want it? i would hate to see you spend $2000 on a HKS/TRUST/apexi exhaust then sell it on the forums fot $1500 because its too loud for you... then you're back to square one.

some exhaust shops are better than others - ask around for ones that have done skylines before or where people have gone to before...

then again, some people just have money burning a hole in their pocket and i could trun blue in the face trying to say that cheaper apples taste the same as more expensive apples but to no avail..

good luck,

Waz.
