Skylines for Targa 05

The differences are subtle, but sizeable.... For example an R32/R33/R34 N1 under the proposed rules must run standard ECU and Exh, no boost, no brake cooling ducts, no coilovers.... while a base model R32/R33/R34 can have all the current mod's allowed in LMS, but of course non none of the standard N1 good bits like coolers etc to ensure you don't need to rebuild the engine after each event and the only reason people buy or replicate N1s in the first place!

ahhh i didn't read it properly, i just saw skyline GT-R under the M2 regs. I hope they don't go through, cause it just seem's to be making less accesable to normal people.

Targa Tom: didn't they have the new electronic timing system in place this year? They were saying in the newsletters that they were going to utelise it this year, and just use the homo paper system as a backup.

I watched the satge at Lonford this year, and i was on the left hand corner near the start, and when you got 3/4 round the corner you discovered it had a layer of loose blumetal on it. I saw 2 cars blow tires (if not break wheels) on the curb after they hit the gravel, potentually ruening someones rally. I agree that Targa should be in contact with the consells to make sure that roads are up to a good standard for racing[/i] on well before the rally.

BTW your car was one of the faster/neater cars I saw that day.

Targa should also stop being picky and choosy about the rules, eg there is no way Brocks Monaro fitted in the regs, and this year the GT40 had no form of roll cage (and i didn't see a fire extingesher either). Yet they disquallify the Whites for missing the intercooler cover

You seem to know a hell of a lot about the reg of Targa and associated motor sport.

What is it you actually do???

Lets just leave it at "He is one of the few that do most of the work"... One thing about forums, people can stay under the radar to a certain extent. Once they disclose their position roll or job in the comunity, they must then tow their sponsors or employees line.

IMHO he is one person we want to remain in the sport(in his current position), as he is a competitor... therefore experiences our concerns first hand.

Fast = RB20

Neat = Driver

But it is easy to be smooth on the street sections... their base time is such you dont have to smack into curbs or do tire shredding slides.

Had I been more informed(Navigator Role) I would have been slower as we cleaned the stage by 42secs, but cold shredded one tyre

The electronic system was trailed again this year, still not 100% though, hence why the paper and fax system was again used.

The reason Targa developed its own system is so the capturing system can collect data that is workable with its custom electronic results system as now used by ARC, Classis Adelaide, East Coast Targa, GP Rally and a few others. In consultation with Seiko, TAG and a number of other suppliers it was found that no existing system is fully automatic, even the WRC system has a form of manual input. So Targa has set out, along with a contractor, developing its own.

Targa have contact with councils the entire 12 months of the year to minimalism resurfacing conflicts. All councils are kept informed of the course and any proposed stage changes. It baffles me as to why a council will go and resurface for instance streets like in Longford and not expect backlash. Targa performs it best to ensure resurfacing is kept to a minimum, and if performed that the roads are swept clear... unfortunately sometimes Targa becomes court up in municipal politics and suffers as seen by the examples in Longford and Triabunna. Wilmot was plain and simply cause the contractor did not deliver on the job assigned.

Brock Monaro - Yes it did, read the rules. 5 were built by Holden Motorsport and inspected.

GT40 - No form a visible roll cage, it was of integral design and hidden from immediate view. Extinguishers were there too if you had a close look.

White GTR - Don't believe everything you read in the paper. They're GTR was excluded last year for being fitted with and using a Nismo waterspray kit, not missing intercooler mesh.

Waterspray is not a permitted modification unless it comes standard on the base car. Therefore Evo's and STi's can use it as its OEM on those, but not GTR's or 911 Turbos or GT2s as it was only an option.

Thought I'd pipe up and say how stoked i/our team are with the Targa Tassy event and our result!

We were running in Showroom class in a bog standard 2001 bug-eye Sti. We managed a Class win (9SRE), Category win (entire showroom, Porsche GT2 n all!), and 14th Outright.

An awesome event! As you all prob know, a lifelong dream to compete!

The car performed perfectly, just requiring a replacement front hub assembly end day 2. (Bearing)

A very confident and commited drive by my driver Jason on day 3 was a highlight for me, even managing to beat Gentleman Jim on one stage!

Not to mention 48klms of Mt Arrowsmith on day 5, with sleet, black ice, AND snow, all at up to 200klm/h! AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!

The only downer we had was the transponders fitted to the cars wouldn't allow our car to start!

AND a big thumbs up to all the volunteers at the event. I didn't speak with one who wasn't a total pleasure! Congratulations! :O

Thanks for clearing all that up, did you inspect the GT40?

I had a look at the GT40 out of interest, very tricky I thought, but no I don't inspect any vehicles. The National Technical Commissioner for Tarmac Rallies did though and was OK with it.

One thing I did note about the GT40 was the tyres. The rears were so hard that they would have created sparks in the wet!

Its just good that we have the organisers and the entrants to run an event like this, if not it wouldn't exist.

Anyone going to the Northern Volunteer's BBQ this sunday???

lol dad and i commented on the good ol crossplys. I though if you can afford a real GT40, you can afford real tyres (esp since your racing it)

well the chasis number checked out, and it had all the origenal piping that vented air (and water) from the front into the drivers back, by the condition it should be a ridgy didge.

But It did have the wrong carbs , a butured interior, one of the alloy roofs they tested back in the 60's, and a Gulf racing back (wider wheel arches)

Did anyone see where the fules lines were? they practily rubbed on the front tires.

I am on my way to China for work... Got to pay for an EVO IX somehow.

But please pass on my apology and my sincere thanks to all those who give up their spare time to get wet, cold, abused, lollies thrown at etc.

Because you ARE the people who make the event what it is…
