eXc When you pulled it apart was the centre pin out?

When I put my pin back in it was too loose to hold so I drove a thin punch up the hole in the back of the pin to expand it to make it a tight fit in the hole as well as using loctite 601.

Your spring probably fell off but it looks alright in your second pic.

Yeah it was kinda loose. I will give this a go. If it starts playing up again, I know the culprit(well most likely) and I'll keep your idea in mind if I need to make it tighter.

I actually think the pin was in it when I pulled it apart, but the part that spins, was not in the right place. Which is why I wasn't sure if I put it together right. But it seems I have. So it somehow spun out of place, but I think the pin will hold...

yay! It was the Air Regulator. It's now idleing at 800ish.

I am gonna write up a tutorial on how to do it and put it in the DIY section if anyone is interested.

congrats mate!

how did you get to the air regulator? what did you have to take off?

would be great if you could write a how-to and help the skyline community

cheers,

Waz.

Already done...well kinda. I have made the word doc. I am gonna turn it into a PDF, and get funkymunky (?) to store the photos on SAU and I'll start a thread :( :headbang:

I don't think I *had* to remove anything, but I did remove inlet pipe (just before throttle body) and hoses around the air regulator, it was an awkward job. If I wasnt worried about having no money for a gasket, i woulda taken the throttle body off, woulda made life a lot easier.More details in the how to when it's up.

How to Doc/pdf will be up soon, and thread should be up soon. Definatly by next weekend.

I am also gonna do one for the AAC. and I am gonna do one for a stereo install if it hasnt been done yet, but i would assume it has.

Cheers

Chris

ok, here is the word DOC I created, I am gonna convert it to a PDF so it's smaller...just downloading the software. stupid dial up. If anyone on broadband wants to check out my tutorial and comment on it feel free...I have never done one before, So I welcome constructive criticism.

1.1mb - http://home.kooee.com.au/exup250/AirReg.doc

I'll start the tutorial thread once I have the PDF/html version written.

Cheers

I just had a look at your tutorial and must commend you for helping others out.

Just a couple of things you might revise.

How it works: It uses an electrically heated bimetallic strip to rotate a disc that opens a hole that allows air to bypass the throttle body to increase idle speed while the engine is warming up.

I wouldn't recommend adjusting the throttle body idle screw or TPS unless they have already been tampered with as they are set in the factory and rarely need adjustment.

If there are no inlet air leaks or faulty air reg. or bov etc, a functional AAC should control idle speed if it's adjusted correctly.

This can be done by disconnecting the AAC plug then screw the adjustment in to slow the idle down or out to speed it up. Idle should be about 675rpm. Reconnect the plug and let the ecu control the idle.

    • Thanks both. All good advice. Reminds me of drilling through stone wall for drainage pipe 馃槵 I'll let you know how I get on if I still have use of my hands afterwards 馃槄

    • I'm so far behind in the jobs I have to do at both work and home (including car) that I have become immortal. There's simply no way that I can die now.
    • Each to their own I guess  Me, I put just as much time into cleaning inside of the cars as I do on the outside As for getting wet, it is really no different than steam cleaning the carpets at home, apart from the cars carpet dries alot faster than the house, again, I only do it in the hotter months and leave the car opened up for a few hours As I only do it yearly, it is just before I do the diff and gearbox service, so I clean the carpets, then it's up on stands, wheels off, service, clean the undercarriage,  grease the bushings and do a nut and bolt check on everything  Disclaimer: I typically had all the time in the world to kill when I was working 馃ぃ, so spending a full day or 2 cleaning, serving and "looking at stuff" was,  easily achievable, and a fun mental therapy day As for time to kill, I retired last Wednesday, so apart from my physical training, my days are filled with lots of random jobs around the house and garden...."Idle hands are the Devils something something" I am also buying a new house sooner rather than later, I'm actually looking at a potential property tomorrow, I'm looking forward to getting a car hoist as I'm starting to get to old to crawl around under a car, I can only imagine all the undercarriage cleaning and looking at stuff when that gets set up
    • Yeah, I'm not interested in wetting the carpets, and I don't care about brown dirt/dust that lives deep in the pile or underneath. It's not like I crawl around on them in my birthday suit or eat dropped food off them (because there is never any open food in my car). The seats are alcantara (cheap Chinese imitation alcantara, to be sure!) with barely 1" of foam pad behind the surface. That's not getting wet either. Any car that I would be happy to get the interior wet, I would not care to put the effort into.
