curious - nissan "consult" programmer

i obtains some manuals for various nissans and was looking through them when i noticed they use a "consult" quite frequently - im assuming its a nissan product. For those who dont know, is a hand held controller that is plugged into the ecu (i think) to diagnosis problems with the car. Im just curious if anyone has one of these consults for private use as it seems to be quite handy going by what they use it for in the service manuals. Or does only a nissan dealer have them if that.

Could be also a generic console.

I know most Japanese garages have one which reads most of the JDM factory ECU.

i dont think that they are that generic here in australia hence why i ask if anyone has one. but would be great if i was wrong.

Can do a lot of what the consult interface can do.. which is only available to authorised nissan dealers. You'll need a laptop, not necessarily a fancy one..

there is alot of third party colsult software out there and via connecting the consult port to a computer, You can monitor everything in realtime and log and graph things
