You do need to say this is what I have done (times and mods/cost). Drag racers are the worst for the comments like, "Yeah I got a 14.2 but my tyres are shit, my fuel was old, the track wasn't prepped properly, my mum was watching, etc and I would have got a flat 12"

I personally don't like those kind of, 'could have except for' comments, but hey, who am I to rain on your dreams :).

I think you hit the nail on the head with the cost issue though.

Fatz is building (really slowly) an aussie R31 with SR20, silvia suspension and welded diff which should surprise a few people for cheap speed. I considered buying it off him but decided I'd rather spend more money on the 34. I'm not going to be faster but I will have speed, handling and comfort all in one package.

As it stands, my times are my times....and thats cool by me. As long as i go quicker then my last visit then i know im improving as a driver, and thats about all i can really control.

My point...using my car as an example of the sort of lap times a modded GTST can do isnt a real indication. Hence the shopping list of dramas/problems.

If you want to spend 30K on a car that you will get a kick out of (10k car + 20k mods) then id say look at an EVO IV if AWD, or RX7, perhaps GTST if RWD.

If you said (10k + 20k mods, + fear of costs blowing out and extra coin each year on maintenance) then id say sure go the GTR.

LOL...im just making an even bigger ass of myself, ppl start to think that i dislike GTRs or think that GTSTs are better...which just isnt the case:)

I'm not agreeing with the costs thing either Roy.

Other than my gearboxes and tyre issues my car hasnt missed a beat on the track. Sctosman has only had "tree" issues. Emre has only had "wall" issues. And the other regular track GTR's I know - Tim, Ben and Frank haven't had any problems at all.

The only people that have had real maitenence problems have been you RWD set your car on fire boys.

I've always tried to be gentle on my engine where possible and so far *touch wood* there's been no signs of problems on that front. But the car still is punching out times that are good enough for me thats for sure. I can't see that you need to spend a lot of $$$ to make a fast track GTR. If you want a silly fast track GTR thats a different story but a bacic low maintence R32 GTR shouldn't cost that much. Being able to be happy with keep that level is the hard part with the GTR's even though you will still be quicker than 95% of cars out there.

Fair point. What year models and how many track kms have they the GTRs done? They are just about perfect for a club car, but as a track car i think the costs can get up there.

If i was building a track car for a series like Improved Production i would build an RX7 or GTST. If i had my time again with a club car, i suppose thats what i call my, yours Scotsmans etc etc then i would say the R33 GTR is the go if you can afford one. With most R32s you will just run into little age related probs.

budget isnt desided yet it will be a on going project will start in about a years time and will just start off with the basics zorst pod cooler fuel pump and some boost but the first thing i really want to spend money on is getting it set up right to handle then ill get serious about power looking at getting a uncomplied r32 gtst or a earler model rx7 around the 5-7 g mark should get a good one then spend about 5gs straight off on mods and then go from there

Though jokes aside, BRASCO has a total budget of about 12-13k which would probably more suit the s13 or gtst with mods theory, as opposed to a gtr that needs money spent on it..

LOL...you GTR owners are so easy to rev up:)

was looking at about 10-12g's straight up on car and a few mods

then about another 10g's after about 6 months to a year like i said it will be a on going project so really just want a little bit more power from stock then set her up right to stick to the track then i will get serious about power like oil cooler,bigger rad,aftermarketr ecu,injectors and maybe even cams
