actually, i can talk from experience, i have droped an rb 20 det in the front of my prince gt, you can get the package with the gearbox of there is an adaptor to bolt the orginal L block gearbox to them. as for the tailshaft both the rb and L series gearboxes actually have the same yoke size and spline........ only thing you might have to do is fabricate a set of engine mounts.... the gear box mount is almosrt the same.. for both bolt positions on both gearboxes......

and i think there are mobs out there that have engine mount kits for these conversions... just need to look around abit..... zoom was a good magazine for these sort of articles and information.....

any thing is possible...and an RB20det would be a absolute V8 killa in that toy!

Yeah i thought about that... I am wanting to update it with a injected unleaded motor - but yeah i might just wait till she needs fixing...

yes i do peelies in it from time to time... hmmmm somebody knows tamworth....

i have to say the rb25de is a great $$ option as well, being your brother is machanic he would know the right people in town to get the work done, your looking at a little fabracition, electrical and exhaust work other than that a little time to get it all done..all up i'd say $2500 would be about the budget.

Hi Bek,

If it was mine and was staying normally aspirated, I would be doing an F54 280ZX block, bored 3mm o/size, try to source an LD28 crank and go to 3098 and have one hell of a cruiser.

But if the late model ULP EFI option is your choice, I can't see why you would go past the aussie RB30E from an R31 and take it to GTS2 spec.

The RB25DE is rated at 134Kw, yet the RB30E GTS2 is rated at 140Kw and parts are a dime a dozen. An engineers report would be necessary with both of these 2 option, but with anything over 2760, it will be the same.

For a quick fix upgrade, the head and induction system of the C211 or MR30 would bolt on and get you running fairly cheaply, if EFI is your goal.

If go and cheap is the option, do the 240Z engine specs as with twin carbs, extractors and some tuning fairly good power is obtainable.

Hey Bek, Yeah sweet ride. Colour looks good (the Muppets, Yaaay).

Which engine to go with I guess comes down to cash.

A good cheap way may be (as already stated) the L24E for L28E - from the MR30 and 280ZX - should go in without to much hassle.

With some breathing mods and extractors/exhaust you should be able to get reasonable economy and good useable power for the road.

Or maybe the RB30E from the R31 skylines (you can do lots to these engines to make them more powerful and efficient)

I drive a MR30 with a L24E and even though these are not the toughest of the L series engines with basic maintenance I have never had a problem.

With some suspension mods I think I would be a great little car.

Keep us posted.

Cheers
