Im thinking about buying an R32 GTS-T.. ive got a 00' model honda integra GSi which i will prolly get around 17~18 for. Plus i have a few grand saved up.

I plan on buying one already here, since the import rule is kinda wishy washy atm... and id rather have the car checked out properlly.

An r32 gts-t specific question... do they have ABS? if not? is it possible to get ABS installed? like aftermarket?

Are their any differences between the 1993 and 1989 models?

Any specific problems i should look for when im looking at them?

*ps* i tried a few searches but i didnt work to well :D

differences between 89 and 1993 are mainly just visual. If you can get a later model it will probably better worth your while in the long-run, as there are quite a few 1989 ones around now. Some don't want much to do with a 89 model just because.

Some of the later models had ABS as an option, but it was pretty rare.

have owned 2 R32's and think that they are an absolutely awesome car to own and drive.

Weaknesses:

suspesion - this can be overcome by getting a model that has aftermarket shocks and springs, castor rods, control arms, and buschs.. They have been driving for 10+ years now so this aspect of the car has copped a bit of a beating.

Engine Condition - u plan on buying a sports car, so understand that it has been driven like one before you bought it... This means that for the past 10 years the car has been used for the same reasons you want to use it for (maybe worse). Have a full compression and leak down test done. A few hundred extra dollars on some comprehensive testing may save you thousands in the long run.. Take it to a reputable mechanic to be tested.

Fuel Pump - definately a weak spot on the R32. Try and get one that has had it replaced.

Door, window, and sunroof seals - prone to wear and tear, and could mean the car leaks when it rains.

Accident History - have the car checked from top to bottom - last thing you want is rust to appear down the track from cheap repair work.

Interior Condition - check the dash, gear boot, steering wheel, and the roof towards the rear windscreen.

Speak to Just Jap www.justjap.com about having this installed

Don't totally rule out 1989's. We were looking for a 91-93, after 6 months of looking at loads of junk, one came along, which happened to be a December 1989. After having the engineer check it over we bought it because it is a great car.

The only other car that qualified to be checked out by our engineer was a 93... turned out to have loads of problems; troubled hydraulic lifters, had been in a prang but had a good quality respray, only had about 75% of the power it should've and many other small problems... some other idiot paid more than $15k for it - ha ha ha.

Happy searching... don't rush it.

exactly take your time.

but get 1 cause the kick a$$!!!!

really fun to drive, you will notice alot you will just look at and say "i dont think so!!"

but u can find that has been taken care of. it will last forever! good ol rb20

thanks for the tips guys, quite interesting.

With the ABS.. has anyone had ABS installed on their 32? is it dodgy/good?

Do you think i should aim to get one privately or one from like a dealer... i noticed two at UAS, a 93 with about 170km's and a 89 with about 100km's.. both in my price range.. i personally havnt seen the vehicles in the flesh yet, been a bit busy.

oh also... price ranges suck! look for r32's meeting your criteria and value them yourself.

personally, i wouldn't go for one with 170ks... the closer you get to 200, the more stuff breaks ... but hey that's just my opinion. comprehensive checks will tell you the quality... might reflect k's, might not depending on the previous owner.

when i was looking... i came to the conclusion that any car that i didn't have to jump on quickly (before all the other young guys looking for r32 gtst's snapped it up) wasn't worth it... the one on uas makes me wonder - looks nice though, go check it out.
