RTFGTR
Make sure you get one of the catch cans for R32s that Ben is making... I'm due for the trial one next week...? Just bought one after PI track day... not installed yet... caus there anit no room to put the thing! Was working with the idea of using cable ties next to the fuse box (32's) or building a bracket with a mates help next to battery? Might have a look at Bens and take the other back??? Ronin 09
Ben is fabricating one to fit where the factory battery is - a couple of litres like the one for his 33. It means you'll have to replace the factroy battery with a small one - I am replacing with a Odyssey 650 mini battery Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/68656-munch-munch-i-had-a-piston-for-lunch/page/2/#findComment-1272490 Share on other sites
RTFGTR
Bugger:( Good luck with it all. Be honest with what you want from the car and dont get carried away with the re-build. If you want the whole show then cool...but its all too easy to say "may as well get rods as well, oh and cams, oh and headwork..." When you would have been happy with just rods and the car back on the road with good reliable hp. You will work it out, good luck with it all:thumbsup: Mate, no need to worry about me getting carried away (except in a body bag once the woman finds out the bill) I will keep it humble to a certain extent (whats the use of all that power and goodies if I can't use it to it's full potential on the track... No. 1 novice... only one track day under my belt) I will be very pleased with the finished product and I will be working within a budget (yet to be finalised) What do you reckon Troy? What should I do and not do... if it were you? Beer Baron
bummer on the blow up mate. my only advice is that whilst you are at it get some sump baffles/extension put in and replace water pump and oil pump. do the oil restrictor in the head mod too, if Ben recomends it. anyway just focus on the positive side of having a fresh engine Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/68656-munch-munch-i-had-a-piston-for-lunch/page/2/#findComment-1272663 Share on other sites
Al
I would highly recommend N1 oil and water pumps be put in, especially with that turbo and possibly the increase in the RPM limiter, once internals are done. Just listen to Ben's advise and always ask questions, just to clear your mind up of any issues. JAGR33
Sorry to hear Robin, although by the amount of blow by it had on the PI trackday, it was evident that the motor was a bit tired, that's how mine was before I took it to Ben... One thing for sure is that you will walk away a happy man once you pick up ur car from Ben's.... In my opinion. definetly get forged pistons, Ben recomended Arias 86.5mm for me which from memory were about $1350, mind you I was on a budget, the Tomei forged pistons are around $2k from memory... Also change your headgasket to a metal one, I got 1.0mm Tomei... Obviously you'll get the block machined and honed to suit pistons, and obviously new bearings... Oil & water pumps can be upgraded to N1 items (recommended), unless you got the moola to fork out for a JUN oil pump... Depending on budget and power goals, u could get some headwork and aftermarket cams... but then you ask yourself where do you stop??? This should give you a brief indication on what to consider with the rebuild, either way you'll have an indestructable fresh engine..... I was gonna offer you good luck but you won't need it since Ben's doing the job!!!! Cheers, sorry for long post Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/68656-munch-munch-i-had-a-piston-for-lunch/page/2/#findComment-1272988 Share on other sites
Roy
Dont ask me what id do:) I reckon Jack is on the money. My only advise is dont forget the costs of things like aftermarket rod bolts for the std rods, head studs, gaskets, oil pumps and water pumps etc etc. These are the sorts of things id be looking at doing whilst its all apart. Whether you really need N1 oil pumps etc, id be asking Ben. N1 water pump is cheap enough, but then again your current water pump may have been changed in Japan?!?!?!?! Stuff like rods, cams, head work, valve springs can always get done later if the money isnt there. I was happy with Bens work and advice, best of all he let me field questions and chew his ear off, so before i even drove the car i was pretty happy i was getting what what i was chasing...so i suppose its a matter of just talking through what you need, then looking at what you want:) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/68656-munch-munch-i-had-a-piston-for-lunch/page/2/#findComment-1273015 Share on other sites

Duncan
damn start saving I just started mine on the weekend for the first time after rebuilding it and it has been....interesting. My recommendations: Go Arias forgies, about 1200 from Rocket industries including rings. 86.5mm will require a small bore out Head recondition, new guides and stem seals, get the ports cleaned up a little at the same time Standard rods should be fine. ACL make bearings for rb26 now, about 10% of nissan cost. SR20 big end bearings and RB30 mains. Whack on a trust exended sump, or even better a local custom made one that won't reduce ground clearance Balance all the uppy downy roundy roundy bits Might as well throw in an N1 oil pump but I would not do N1 water pump unless it is a track only car.....they flow a fair bit less by the look of them. Glad to hear your taking it to Ben... the man is a wizard. Was there on Sunday for lunch and last ditch attempt to catch a farking fish... I'm sure there are no fish in Victoria! Just after I left the lakes all the drama started. Sorry to hear Robin, although by the amount of blow by it had on the PI trackday, it was evident that the motor was a bit tired, that's how mine was before I took it to Ben...One thing for sure is that you will walk away a happy man once you pick up ur car from Ben's.... I think I was in la-la land for most of today at work but it's all set in now and you know it's good that ben is so busy... gives me time to save the $$$$ I think I may have some goddies already in the car like the aftermarket cams, I still need to put a new ECU in the mix. Whats the going price on a Standard Remapped??? ITEMS I WILL BE GETTING 100% Pistons (forged) brand not yet known ECU - brand and type not yet known (Power FC or Motec) New Bearings Headgasket All the work rquired to install above (labour, machining and tuning) Catch Can (I have one... but will probably take it back or sell and get another) NOT SURE Rods Pumps (water and oil) probably oil (car has never had issues with these items or over heating) Headwork Very sleepy, need to get a clear head and think about it all again in the morning. Cheers to all for the help and going easy on the cause! West
Holy shit !!! Well shit happened man, take it easy. I was suprise to see you run such a big turbo without any ECU stuffs. Well once the RB26 goes down, its' always the case that it'll come back to live and <<< STRONGER>>>. Good luck with the rebuild, don't stress too much. You know you gonna get the engine rebuild anyway sooon or latter so you can unleash the power of that snail so take it as you've taken an early step. Cheers mate, remember what you told me ! You love this network ( SAU VIC ) so anything that we can do just let us know. R31Nismoid
with a turbo like yours, try factor in Rods. as you will one day be able to wind it up enough that the stock rods will be on thier limit. But again, talk to Ben. You have CAMS already, and who knows what else is in your motor, you could be in for a surprise Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/68656-munch-munch-i-had-a-piston-for-lunch/page/2/#findComment-1273264 Share on other sites
