Ok. It's still a little while away but it's time to start thinking about getting orgainsied for this years Dutton Rally of Victoria.

Last year I competed in the event for the first time and since it finished all I have been doing is looking forwards to it coming around again this year. For those that want to know a little bit more from my experiences last year here's the link to my little post event report with some nice little pictures.

Basically the event is called a Tarmac Rally but really it's a series of motorsport events carried out over 3 days that range from small motokana typre events, to circuit work at Winton to straight line events such as 1/4mile and 800m's. There are no navigational events at all.

Requirements are basic - same as any typical track day. Helmet, fire extinguisher, L2S CAMS licence, etc. No need for roll cages or racing suits.

One of the most enjoyable parts of the event for me was the encouragement to enter as a team event. So basically for every car there are 2 drivers. This means every event is done twice. One by you and once by your team mate. You don't have to enter as a team but the Team Trophey is the major prize and it also helps to reduce the costs to an individual entry.

Biggest downside to the Dutton Rally is the entry costs - so it's not for everyone.

Basic Entry costs are:

Single Entry - $1775

Team Entry - $2390

These costs cover your entry plus your meals for the event (on Friday - Sunday). Also provides you with some merchanise as well. What it doesn't cover you for is:

Accommodation

Tyres (you'll want to start with new ones!)

Brakes (as above)

Fuel

General Car preparation

Alcohol!

Really the Dutton Rally is one of the best chances for you to test the limitations of you and your car in a pretty damn safe environment. One of the best things about the event is that there is ALMOST nothing to hit to risk your car. Also you will get the chance to compete against some of the most crazy cars on the road (like bad ass posches galore plus many others) as well as some seriously good drivers from the V8 Supercars, Porsche Cup and a bunch of Targa Tas drivers as well.

Scotsman and I are teaming up this year and if anyone else is considering entering we should look at getting our entries with deposits in ASAP so we can ensure we are teamed up together for the event (the field gets split in 2 groups).

More information at the Dutton website.

Enjoy ppl, the friend i was hoiping to do it with wont be entering, so that tipped my thinking and i finally have made up my mind to do some travel while i can still get a work visa.

The Dutton was the main reason i was hanging around, that and i dont want to sell my car, its truly sad how pathetic i am:(

Ah - the memories. Just read last year's thread... oh what a time it was :)

As it's a 99% certainty that I wont be entering - you can count on me again for support and photos. We may not have the 'spare' car this time, but I will endeavour to be useful none the less

No I'm avoiding breaking my car this year - would be much more fun to finish it. But we'll have the back up GT-R just in case! ;)

The rumour going around now is that Frank and Aaron are teaming up together in Franks car to do the Dutton. Hopefully Aaron can get on here and confirm that. Also - I presume Jeff will be coming again this year - possibly in the new R34 N1 that he just did Targa in?

Less than 100 Days to go so my count down is on! Started back at the gym yesterday for the first time in over 2 years just to get a bit fitter for this event.

I can't wait! :(

Ok - just heard that Tony is entering with his brother in his car as well.

This thing is quick - just ran a 1.21 at Sandown at the Alfa day last weekend.

Frank is entering in his car

Maybe Chris we should bugger my car off and keep the White R33 theme going and enter in yours?

Frank and myself (Aaron) are 100% in. Franks car is awesome so it should be heaps of fun. My car is still basically stock so it will stay at home and sit this one out. I'm sending the entry tomorrow.

We just did the WRX Club Morwell day. Frank came overall first, beat me by 4/100 of a second. Blaze was a close third in his WRX RA and possibly could have nailed first if he did another run.

The track got a blast of sun on it and that is when I grabbed my best time. I told Blaze to have another run but he had already swapped his street tyres back on. (lucky for Frank and me)

Morwell is a buzz and a half in a GTR.

Thats a bummer Kel - I was actually really hoping you guys were doing NSW again because I was hoping to find out if the events held this year were the same as in 2004. Cause I'm going to try and practise some of last years events - if I can find a good carpark!

Anyone know of any? LOL

From memory, the 2004 NSW Dutton courses were about 80% the same as the ones from 2003. The courses didn't really seem to change, they just added new stuff (like the figure 8 skid pan at EC/ a lap of wakefield with chicanes and a garage stop and a new hill climb course).

You need to get rid of that teammate of yours and i promise that if i get your 2nd seat ill let you go quicker:)

How about we have a drive off, whoever is quickest over 3 laps at Sandown gets the drive:) You can drive my car on the day while Scotsman and i double up in your car:)

    • Thanks Mate, I did know you could do that but i know there is a pump out there that you can bolt on and it all lines up. I was told about it and then forgot the model, I figure if i am pulling it apart i will just put a new one on
    • You can also remove the veins from the HICAS portion of your existing pump.
    • Trying to swap the rear subframe on my R34 and can't remove the L-shaped stay brackets between the front subframe mounts and the sill/chassis. I'm in the UK so rust is a problem. I've used loads of WD40 and then Tunap 103 for days beforehand. I backed off the bolts forward a bit, backward a bit repeatedly for ages to try and avoid snapping. They have all moved a few full turns. The one I've spent most time on has come loose and I can turn with fingers, and it will pull down and push up 2-3mm. But it won't come out. I can tighten it back up and loosen it off again repeatedly but it still won't come out. I assumed there's a captive nut inside but if that's broken loose then I can't understand why I can always tighten the bolt back up - I'd expect it to just spin both ways. Any ideas what's happening here? I can't visualise what's inside there to cause this.
