When i ran my R33 gtr engine without oil (an oil line blew off), the camshafts scored the bearing surfaces in the head. Does anyone know places in the sydney area that can hone these surfaces with the correct equipment (tunnel honer?)

Also, has anyone had any experience with this type of problem? I really dont want to by a new head!

Thanks,

Shaun.

If the score marks are too deep you could be in a world of hurt. They would want to be only very light marks and you wouldn't want to hone them out cause then you will make your bearing clearances even bigger. Your only option is to make a set of cams with bigger bearings which would be very costly.

Its cheaper to buy a new head. :D

I got my head reco done by Hiflow Engineering in Mascot 9319 6022. Talk to Steve.

I'd take it down and get them to check it out, they have done a few RB26 and know what they are doing. I'm sure they can confirm if it can be done or not.

Thanks for the info. I hope i dont have to buy a new head; i just spent $6500 on the bottom end!

I thought it would just be a case of lightly honing out the bearing surfaces, and then taking the same amont off the bearing caps so that the original diameter is maintained.

I had a look at the surfaces and didnt think they were too bad; but im not an expert either.
