Hey, has anyone had experience with trying to use bolt on R33 exhaust systems on their stageas ? I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the downpipes sold as bolt ons for R33 GTS-T will fit (turbo to cat). Then I'm interested to know whether we can go to a 3" cat and have that bolt onto the stock cat back exhaust. I guess its then too much to ask that anything from an R33 GTS-T will fit from the cat back, but feedback would be appreciated..

I've been looking at the 3" down pipes for R33 by RZone performance ? http://www.rzoneperformance.com.au/

Their mild steel unit front and dump pipe for R33 is a bolt on and only $165, stainless $285. I like their 3" cats too for $165. Will these fit the stagea and has anyone had experience with RZone ?

Bah. Now you tell me.

You should have asked first.

How much difference do thry make?

A lot......well I think so anyway. More to do with response and earlier boost build than outright power at one single rpm point. Although I did see a noticeable improvement above 5,000 rpm on the R34GTT when I went from a single/combined dump to a split dump using a GCG ball bearing hi flow turbo. This would seem logical considering the lack of turbulance at the turbine as a result of separating the wastegate exhaust.

On the GTR's, we found having the separations for longer made a similar difference at the higher rpms. That's why I don't use the shorty (HKS style) spilt dumps, I prefer the combined dump and engine pipe as it allows for a more realistic separation (over 300 mm for example).

:)

yep I agree with Gary the gains I've seen from the longer style split dumps seems to be worth it. I will be fitting these babies to the GTR soon:

Thanks guys,

From what I am hearing, it looks like you can fit an R33 GTS-T downpipe to cat, then also the entire cat back system, all bolt up. Please correct me if I misunderstood. SK I agree that the cat is a good place to spend a bit extra to improve flow, but for $165 for the dump I must weigh up the cost/benefit of the split dump. Although undoubtedly superior, the apparent lack of bolt on's in a split dump for say, under $300 would tend, for me anyway, to favour the cheaper 3" dump with a streamlined entry and forgo a 14-15% horsepower gain for instead a 10-12% gain. (example only, I have no idea what the performance gain will be ). Those last few hp always cost the most. Also, once the cheaper dump wears out/rusts away its time to upgrade the turbo..... GT30 for me. he he. Then we can start to really exchange some $ for hp..

hey mmmgtir, re: those pics of those split dump pipes look good, but $875 AUD to fit R33 GTS-T ?

Umm I think I may have mislead you a bit there. The front/dump pipe in my Stag is an R33 GTST one but the cat back exhaust is a an actual Stagea one. I'm pretty sure an R33 GTST cat back wont fit.

Whooa yeah - no chance of a skyline exhaust fitting a Stagea - need to get a custom or a aftermarket bolt on from HKS or others that do Stagea cat-backs. Got my HKS Stagea bolt-on for $750 :) Really you should just read the exhaust thread :D

But dump pipes should be same bolt-ons as skylines... although yeah Ill be going with SK's recommended custom split pipes :)

Thanks Brazen. Who did you get the HKS exhaust through - its 3 inch cat back bolt on in stainless isn't it ? for $750 thats looking good value for $. They list them on their site as 48090 yen, at todays exchange rate thats $580 AUD, so $750 sounds ballpark landed. But who can you get them through ?

I had a quick look for a stagea exhaust thread but no success, shouldn't bolt on exhaust bits be listed in the parts list in the sticky threads ? They are pretty popular items.

Theres bits and pieces on different threads - just search exhaust for this Stagea section - but here is the thread pretty much same as this one...

I got my HKS exhaust from Hanson at Xspeed... they have an online shop - but just call him for a price... he said around $750 + shipping for guys on here i think i recall - but confirm with him...

:P

Umm, yep, pretty much exactly the same thread. Sorry about that, but I contend time to stick up some exhaust details in the parts section ?

Bolt on R33/34GTS-T downpipe to cat, cat back exhaust is Stagea specific, but some bolt on kits available from HKS etc..

If you get the lot done for under $1 K in mild steel and $1200 in stainless you're doing very well.

That seems to sum it up.

  • 4 months later...

Just got back from the exhaust shop... unfortunately without my exhaust fitted. I bought a split pipe front BATMBL for an r33 (excellent quality from what I can tell....) and the exhaust place told me that the o2 sensor is hitting the manifold and the end (down near the cat) doesn't line up properly...

Now if this pipe is supposed to fit an r33 I thought there would be no problems.... Does anyone have any ideas?

I just tried to fit the Stainless steel split dump pipe from BOSimporting.

It didnt fit. The bend in it was not enough, i mean, the two top bolts dont sit flat, there is a gap.

As for the angles and stuff, it all seemed OK.

Another issue i had was the O2 sensor didnt fit, meaning the O2 hit the exhaust manifold...so thats the final straw, no way to get around that.

Not sure what i will do now...

Oh, i just read the post above!

Same problem... what to do now!! ::D:(:):

i dont know how they fit r33....

Your lucky... i did it at home with jack stands and all... much harder, more cuts on hand etc...

Not sure what to do now... does any one have std dump and front pipe they can send BTML, he can make something up for us hopefully as i dont want to wait TOO long for something from japan.

Just an update on my travels with the split pipe... had it all fitted up today by a different exhaust place. They had no problem with the o2 sensor however they did have the problem with it hitting the floor of the car. They just heated the pipe up and put an extra bend and now it all fits nicely...

OK I've had 2 quotes of $350 for split dump pipe installed. BUT one place reckons I should only upgrade to a slitp dump, only if I want to loose a bit of takeoff power for more top end power. Maybe I should just keep by current 3" dump thats not split???? I would prefer more takeoff power, is this true or are they talking crap?

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
