Im a new owner of a R32 GTR, and would like to change the gearbox oil for some nice new Redline Shockproof. I only have a very basic knowledge of car maintanance, but am willing to do what i can to service my car.

But i jacked up my car the other day, and for the life of me i couldnt 100% be sure of the drain plug and fill plug!!

I understand the drain plug will be at the gearboxes lowest point, and that from what i understand the fill point is on the drivers side halfway along and halfway up the box?

The only 2 points that seemd to be in these places, there wasnt a regular nut, but a nut with a large square recess in it, that looks as though it requires a special tool.

Is this the drain and fill bolts? Or am i looking in the wrong place?

What size are the nuts supposed to be?

Any help or advice would be greatley appreciated guys,

Cheers.

Thats it you got them both . you need a 1/2 " drive and a long bar to undo them .

Drainit out the bottom and fill until it cames out the side .

Spot on mate, you're looking at the correct plugs.

Just use a regular 3/4" socket wrench minus a socket...works a treat!

Remember not to over fill the box with the new oil...oxidisation = bad! With the car jacked up on the drivers side, fill the gear box until oil starts to trickle out, level the car (lower the jack) and then replace the filler plug when the trickle slows down to a near stop. This should indicate that the oil level is just at the bottom of the filler plug circumference. Remember to replace the drain plug too :)

Thanks so much guys, much appreciated.

I was thinking of useing the Redline Lightweight (Blue) rather than the Heavy Weight (Red), apparentley the Heavyweight is quite notchy and stiff when cold??

Also, can somone please try and confirm how much oil the gearbox in a R32 GTR actually takes? I read and heard a lot o different amounts, is 4.1Litres correct?

Thanks again guys,

Hey just a quick question on the same topic but I was lookng for the fill piont on my transfer and couldny find anything that stuck out does, is the gear box and transfer joined?

NO they are not , t/c takes atf oil and it has a drain and fill plug as well .

make sure that you can undo the filler point before you drain the oil. no point draing the oil if you can't fill it up. they have been known to be tight.

:werd:

both my front and rear ones were farking tight!

What sort of oil do you recommend for the front and rear diff's, I will be using Lightweigth Shockproof for the box as mine is quite notchy (sat in Japan for 12 months) might as well do the diffs while I am at it..
