Import Tyres

Hi

I want to keep the tyres that I imported my car with as they are in good condition etc, but im not sure if they have the correct Australian rating. The only markings I can see is a V4UY on the 255's on the rear and a V40L on the 235's on the front. As well all tyres have a really small circle symbol with a squiggly line going through it.

Also my tyres are all the same brand/version but these markings are only on the left side tyres and not on the right. Is that gonna be an issue?

EDIT: actually now that I look closer it might just be that the tyres are on the wrong way on the right hand side - so the markings are on the inside sidewall of the tyres.

If its coming in thru SEVS then Aussie tyres are mandatory. If its the 15 yr rule then tyres must be roadworthy.

Anyone care to 'Best guess' as to whether they'd be OK to keep under the 15year rule..?

Seems to be a good chance of a matchhead fitting into there. Really you'll have to wait and see when it rolls out of the wharves or later perhaps. Bit like how long is a piece of string.

At least 4 tread wear indicators,

The tyres fitted to a 15 year old car and the old ones off your SEVS car need a few things,

Tyres fitted comply with DOT or E mark specifications,

All tyres fitted to the vehicle of the same type of ‘Carcass’ construction,

Rims are marked according to ADR 24,

The scribly logo is the Jap standard mark ie not DOT/E marked.

i changed my rears as they didn't have the markings.. in the end the tyres I bought didn't have the E-rating markers either, but they were sold locally.. lol.. engineer passed them without any fuss.

but this was up in QLD

That scribbly circle is a j/s marking which I have been informed. has only recently been accepted as a valid tyre standard in Australia.

anyone else know if the jap standard is acceptable or not? its abit of a hassle getting 4 new tyres for an unregistered car, (bring out the bricks.... )

My car passed through inspection with Jap Tyres all round. No E or DOT mark to be seen. They have a JIS stamp and they deemed that suitable.

This is for WA so might vary from state to state.

JIS is Japanese Industry Standard and by itself is not sufficient to certify in Victoria for 15yo. Some tyres have a combination of JIS, DOT and or E marking. the latter 2 are the minimum requirement here in Vic.

Still others are ok if complied on the dotars site under manufacturer, so in the end - leave it to your engineer.
