So i know the rules on importing cars into aussi, but as for someone like me who lives in anther country can i bring my car in with me when i move?

The only thing im worried about is that the engine in the car is a 13B rotary and the car is a toyota corolla trueno. Not to mention its made to drive on the other side of the road (LHD) . I coulndt find much on this aside from bringing in my car to drive while im on vacation. Does anyone know if i could import this car?

if you did, you would be going through a 'personal importing scheme'. Don't know too much about this, but you need to have proof that you've owned the car for at least 12months in the country that you live in. But the imression that I've got is that compliance through this scheme isn't all that strict (correct me if I'm wrong). Theres quite a few american muscle cars here that have LHD but they are old and might not have to be RHD.. but my Dad was saying that he saw a Pontiac GTO here with LHD and all... he's might just be pulling my leg....

agree with foznice

Had this with my cossie. Regs are not as strict for personal imports which makes no sense to me. I belive the main one that is different is emissions. Can't remember exactly what but had mine come in under a personal import, I am pretty sure the emissions would have been OK or near OK as opposed to having to wire in a completely new ECU.
