i assume we are talking gtst?? stock for stock, needless to say the monaro would win... however if you had 200rwkw+ id suggest it would would be very close.

The new monaros have 260kW i think and prolly weigh around 1600kg, so a 200rwkw line should be able to keep up only weighing around 1400kg and having approx the same power.

Im sure people have first hand accounts though.

cat back exhaust? stuff that, mate go to a real muffler shop and get a 3" straight through w/ dump pipe from the turbo to the tip. Then go to a radiator place and get a front mount intercooler. If you want more power get a greddy emanage or any kind of fuel mixture controller, then take it to a reputable dyno workshop and come back and show us what kind of power your putting out

The Monaro is a lot heavier than your skyline so I would agree that you dont need to do much more than 200rwkw's to beat him. But with the main basics covered and dial up some boost to maybe 16psi I think you will suprise him :D

But if this sounds great to you, I'll tell you right now if you are saying money is not a problem and you would do those things, it might be a good time to sell your GTS-t and upgrade to a GTR. That would be a great time to flex some jap muscle back at his v8 :)

thanks for the reply......next important question is.....WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET THAT SORT OF KW....money isnt a problem.

alll i have so far, cat back exhuast, pod, HKS bov, boost controller on 12psi.

I think it would be very close already. Are they both manual?

your car weighs 1390 probly 210-220 kw at the flywheel with the mods you have

His car 1690 (300 kg's heavier). If you do the maths the power to weight is very similiar.

Yes, the Monaro is fast. But so what? It can't get any faster! You can double its power output, and still beat it through the corners. Plus, in 10 years time, your car will still be running great while his is blowing smoke because your car has superior Japanese engineering.

Don't let him bait you.

standard the monaros are pretty slow, a mate in his gtst running around 160-180rwkw used to kill them... its got a lot to do with the driver, if your driving a manual you'll need a good launch, if his is auto, he could drag you while eating a big mac.

The skylines still a superior peice of technology.

Well last year we raced the guys in the HSV Club at Philip Island and pretty well cleaned them up. They are nice piece of car if big and lardy with a bit of stonk is your thing, but they suck on the racetrack.

One that I was dicing with was about a second a lap quicker on semi-comps with a fair bit of money spent on the engine and suspension while I had tired old stock suspension and standard road rubber. I had 220rwkw and he was just pulling away on the main straight so a bit of go in the old boat anchor, but I was seriously giving him something to think about on the corners until my tyres started going off due to too much heat. I came in about 5th in my class of modified but Frank and Snowman demolished their HSV barges in the GTR's.

Horses for courses mate but from someone who has spent only a little bit of time in a V8SC pit crew there is nothing similar between the racecar and the road car, so he gets no cred from that.

Consider: they need TWICE the engine capacity you have, and TWO extra cylinders, yet they still only have a bee's dick more power. Go figure!

I have to laugh every time I see one of those with 185i (at the flywheel) on the bum. I just have to wonder - where did the rest of them go? I've got that many at FOUR WHEELS!

guy at work has new monaro....those 5.7 v8 tanks......

how fast are they really.....he's shooting off his mouth saying skylines are pieces of shit and all jap cars are old shiz boxes.....

any1 know how good they go or have raced 1????? :flamed:

What you do is race him, and if he beats you by only a small margin (most likely, anyway), then you say to him "Hey, you only beat me by that much, yet your car is new and mine was made back in (insert year of manufacture here)!!! Yeah, it's Japanese, and yeah it's old, but your car is NEW and you only just beat me..."

Also:

Consider: they need TWICE the engine capacity you have, and TWO extra cylinders, yet they still only have a bee's dick more power. Go figure!

Even better if you beat him.

haha thats the only reason i keep my rediculous wing on my car.. to piss people like the bloke at your work off. and it does!! i love it.

hes's got no hope!!

Hahaha. That's Gold. Gotta agree that it really is a joke. They don't deserve any respect in my opinion.

My missus reckons that she makes their owners cry at the traffic lights around town.

I got a R32 GTR running 1.1 bar. Has a fair bit of work done. Came across a sleeper Holden VS 5.7L, with substantian work done to exhaust, cams etc. I had Three people in my car total, he Only one. Have to give him some respect, he had some balls.

In Syd when coming off the syd harbour bridge going to carl expressway, as he did that left hand bend off the bridge onto carl express, he kicked out the rear throughout the corner. I did the same but with 4 wheel drift, which caught him in no time. But then he pulled hard on the straight, while i got out of 2nd and into third (loosing boost). Obviously i beat him in the end, but he had some power 0-100,,,,,,,,, Then my boost kicked in....... cya!!!!!!!!! 3 gear EAT GTR BABY,,,,MWAH,,,,!!!!

Not to sound opiniated here but i dont think u can really compared engines to engines, esp when urs relies on forced induction to make power. Whats going to happen when u turbocharge a 5.7 v8? It'll prob make enough power to tow your house down.

Not to take sides here, but its really comparing apples and oranges....so why compare? There are pple who like the rumble and torque of a v8, and pple who like the rush of boost and agility of a lightweight engine.

    • had 4 weeks off over xmas and well did some stuff to the shed and BRZ, well short of is I don't work full time in supercars anymore as of yesterday.........
    • Did you get any down time over Christmas, or have you had any since to play with this? Or have you given up and are trying to get yourself a second hand V8SC instead?
    • A random thought I had just before I hit "Submit on this post". If brake fluid, in a container in my garage that has never been opened goes bad after 18 months, why can I leave it in my car for 24 months in an "unsealed container"... Secondly, some other digging, and brake fluid manufacturers seem to be saying 5 year shelf life... Me thinks there line on 18 months for an unsealed bottle is pretty much horse shit marketing spin. Kind of like how if you drive a car and don't run a turbo timer your turbo and motor will die horribly...   Where I started on this though... Someone (me) started down a bit of a rabbit hole, I don't quite have the proper equipment to do Equilibrium Reflux boiling per the proper test standards. I did a little digging on YouTube, and this was the first video I found on someone attempting to "just boil it". This video isn't overly scientific, as we don't have a known reference for his test either. Inaccuracy in his equipment could have him reaching the 460 to 470f boiling point range in reality. In the video, using a laser temp gun, he claims his Dot3 that's been open in his florida garage for over a year gets to about 420 to 430 fahrenheit (215 to 221c) Doing some googling, I located an MSDS for that specific oil, and from new, it claims a dry boiling point of 460 to 470f. Unfortunately they don't list a wet boiling point for us to see how far it degraded toward its "wet" point. While watching it I was thinking "I wonder what the flash point is..." turns out its only 480f for that specific brake fluid....   As for testing the oil's resistance, I might not be able to accurately do that unfortunately. Resistance level will be quite a LOT higher than my system can read I suspect based on some research. However, I might be able to do it by measuring the current when I apply a specific voltage. I won't have an actual water % value, but I'll have some values I can compare between the multitude of fluids. I'll run some vague calculations later and see if I should be able to read any reliable amount of current. These calcs will be based on some values I've found for other oils, and see how close I'll need my terminals together. From memory I can get down to 1pA accuracy on the DMM. I don't think my IOT Power Tester has any better resolution.
    • No, with a twin plate clutch flywheels and clutch pressure plate/friction disks go together. Only clutch where that isn't the case is the Uniclutch but they currently don't make a pull version for the Getrag R34, just some other cars. Personally the flywheel is as light as I'd want it to be. It already drops revs faster than I want to shift normally and I blip the throttle again to rev match on upshifts.
    • Are there any other lighter flywheels that can be used with nismo coppermix twinplate system? Id like to gave the revs pick up faster than oem
