all comes down to preference really. if you buy a r34 your buying a newer car, with the best incarnation of the rb25, the neo rb25. so its definitely no slouch, plus you have rwd which can be more fun and in my opinion, r34s look more pimp, lol. but then u got the gtr, a motoring legend with the iconic rb26, the infamous car that strikes fear into other car enthusiasts, haha. it depends on what you want in the car?? im not too sure but im guessing the r34 has more safety features since its a bit newer?? so i guess thats a plus, and where im from anyways, you see r33s all the time, whereas you rarely ever see a r34. thats just some pros and cons from my point of view anyways

I went through the same choice when i was looking, everyone i asked said without thinking twice 'GTR'...

As mentioned R34 will be newer, and looks different - up to you if you prefer the R34 GTT look or the R33 GTR look. But if you want performance then you can't go past a GTR.

Keep in mind the GTR may cost a little more to maintain/mod.

Go see some nice examples of both in person, drive them and see which one you like better - thats how i made my choice.

Theyre about the same sort of money - the GTR is really only 3 years older than the first incarnation of the GT-T in 1998. For that, you get much better performance and handling.

Choice is yours. While there may be a fair few R33 GTS-T's around, there are far from few GENUINE GTR's

I had to make that decision too a couple of weeks ago. At the end of the day $$ was the deciding factor. Yes they both cost roughly the same to purchase but interms of running costs, maintainence and insurance...the R34Gtt would definately win hands down...being on a pretty tight budget, I opted for practicality as I use it for work a lot. So unless you have a decent budget in mind...i'd go for the GTT....my 2 cents.

Yeah i went the GT-t as well. Just a newer car, better chassis, in the gtr versions of r34's the chassis is 150% stiffer than that found in r33 gtr's, so i guess the GT-t would be stiffer as well.

The quality of build in the GT-t is better imo. Just looks alot fresher then the R33 which first came out in 1993. There's just something i love about my r34.

Well gtr's are a little more complex than a gt-t so i guess things like servicing would cost more as there's more to inspect. There's more to go wrong with them with the complexity of the 4wd system and twin turbo setup. They are tuned more highly so they wouldn't last as long in terms of wear and tear. Just look at the old BMW M3's they had lots of problems with the old models with engine damage. The engine was making such incredible power they were tuning them very closely to full potential, which meant they had more chance to have things go wrong. And don't say beemers are crap cos i'd take a new m3 over my gt-t anyday. And it would outhandle any skyline.

And other stuff. I think the running costs of my gt-t would be less than a gtr.

twin turbo, twin everything = higher maintainence/replacement costs. being 4wd + twin turbo puts the drivetrain and GB under a lot more stress than a Rwd as well....a couple of years does make quite a difference in Kms wise...furthermore...regardless of how stock a GTR comes when it lands from japan, you can bet your left nut that it would have been thrashed or pushed hard in their lifetime...and rightfully so because that was what they were built for!

A GTR for the features and power (and the badge of course), however GTRs are really expensive and are a rare kind of car expecailly the vspec models so you would need to treat it as such by keeping the kms low and keep it tip top condition, the r34 gtt however would be newer, lower kms and alot smoother ride not being a rare car you wouldn't have to worry too much about the kms or condition.

The GTR would be a rough track car (harder racing seats, lower/harder suspension but a hell of lot more power) that i wouldn't drive everyday (however a friend of a friend owns an r33 GTR Vspec and he took it for a long trip which he said was quite comfortable even though its been lowered with HKS susp), more of weekend kind of car, thats why i went for the r34 gtt sedan, a hi performance family car (even though i don't have a family - of my own) and the extra room is always is great for carrying mates.

The GTR really isnt that bad.

But a lot of people have loud exhausts, stiff suspensions.

My Vspec suspension on my 33 isnt that bad. Its stiffer than my GTS-T factory suspension, but its still comfortable.

Ive been up on long journeys down the highway and the thing is so comfortable.

More so than even my GTS-T. The seats are buckety, but they are still comfortable

the skyline GTR suspension i would have to admit is alot better than stock height Supra suspension, a Supra was my last car and that thing was so god damn rough that it was unbelievable. My first reason for selling it. That and that it was non-turbo.

slow13dude, i think the r33 gtr looks alot better than stock r34 gtt, however the r34 gtr would have to be best, most aggressive looking car made. Just looking at it makes you scared of the power its got.

What are you after in a car? Thats probably what you need to look at. This question has been asked a number of times in the past. The best answer is R34 GTR!!!

I owned a standard R33 GTS-t for 2 years (not a R34 GTT, i know, but similar performance) before upgrading to my GTR. I found upgrading to the GTR to be as big a step up as when i first started driving the GTS-t.

As for comfort, the suspension is firm but the seats make up for it, passengers used to always falling asleep in my car on the highway and i have no air con (however, now i have Tein HA suspension!)

I use my GTR as a daily driver, its around 300awkw at the moment and never had a problem with it, i dont find the costs with it any different than with the GTS-t, slightly poorer fuel economy but i still manage to get around 13L/100km compared to 10-12L/100km.

    • My purchase experience was no where near as glorious as yours but still a significant moment in my life! Yeah that's a bit of a dilemma as to whether you bring it back or not!  Obviously a massive waste of time and effort to bring it back if you're only going to move there anyway!
    • To be fair passengers who aren't silly and have been in proper fast cars have often been pretty impressed once you hit 4th gear   
    • I suppose that's true. Barring almost any situation, I'll never sell so what the market does is kind of irrelevant to me. It's possible I'd make most of my money back. That spreadsheet I mentioned? Maybe I could make back more than what the car's total costs thus far are, but the parts and all that is possibly a different story... Thanks for reading. It was certainly a good moment and just makes the ties to the car that much stronger. It's exciting that the option will be there to bring it over, however I have some plans with a shop that may end up keeping the car there longer, not sure. Coupled with the fact I want to move there and haven't solidified any path yet. So in a way, it feels like I'm in a limbo state that is uncertain; time will tell.
    • No worries, everything worked out in the end. I just wanted to make the point that it doesn't matter where it comes from (I.E Australia), it can be broken or improperly built. I would still purchase from these companies in the future. B2R - Not certain how that finished, this was on a car I wired a few things and street tuned. I know the owner ended up shipping the motor back to Australia for investigation. Hopefully some of it is covered under warranty.  Turbosmart - I always pressure test everything that goes on my car. It's a habit from my career in oil and gas. I run two 40mm's and both had major leaks from the actuator to exhaust portion through the shaft. I returned both, they shipped me back two and one was leaking and the other had a 38mm top (40mm gate with 38mm actuator cap, no idea how that happens). Eventually after a lot of back and forth I found myself with two non-leaking gates. I believe this happens a lot more then people would like to believe but you would never know if you don't pressure test them prior to installation. Crank Motorsport - Issued a full refund and let me keep the seat rails. I turned them into scrap metal for other projects. GKTech - Shipped me out a replacement and asked that I modify it as per my idea and that they would do the same for a future revision. ATP - Can just needed a large shim to bolt up properly.  Haltech - They started an actual proper Beta channel for firmware's a few months back and stopped using the general public for testing. I'm now much happier.  Speedtek - f**k Speedtek. I would love to watch them burn.
