Hi Guys,

I have a Blitz Dual SBC in my car to control my boost, rather than using the aftermarket computer as it provides better stability. I have the boost limit set to 1.1 bar, and if the car attempts to go over this it flashes red and beeps at you. Does anyone know what it does at this stage, does it close the solenoid and reduce your boost or is it just a warning. The main reason I want to know is that if I go to the drags then I want to make sure that I am running max boost without it dropping out.

If anyone can make sense of what I said and have an answer then it will be apreciated.

Limits boost , as per the setting. If you want to run more you can set a higher boost on the 'scramble' setting, press a button and off you go.

You are running the stock turbo right? If so 1.1 bar is going to destroy it and maybe other things sooner or later.

Hi Rev210,

It only peak to this value occasionally due to the NVCS, it causes boost to rise as it revs harder. If I destroy the factory turbo then I'll just put in the GT30 earlier. Most of the time I drive with 0.5bar setting, cause its still pretty quick at this setting.

You wouldn't want to destroy your engine too? Bits of turbo can get into the intercooler or even the motor.

Wouldn't the ceramic bits have a hard time getting through the cooler, the tubes aren't particularly big, but I can appreciate what you getting at.

I was just wondering though whether a stock turbo would be working just as hard to produce .7bar on a factory car as it would producing 1 bar on a car with FMIC, 3" intercooler pipes, larger plenum etc. Surely the reduction in pressure drop caused by the factory items would mean that the turbo wouldn't need to work as hard to produce boost. What are your thoughts?

Yes the stock turbo works harder on stock ic/plenum at 'high' boost, but at lower boost there isn't much difference (ie: it can flow enough air). High boost is dangerous even with a nice front mount just ask macka. It also seems to let go at the drags just for that special added embarassment.:)

I'm sure I can embarass myself at the drags without any help from my car. Alright I will only run on my 3/4 setting, slightly more conservative. Apparently with the RB25DET the ring lands on the pistons are particularly weak and running high boost will only make the situation worse, I am putting forged pistons in soon, before the new turbo. The forged pistons will drop the compression to 8.5:1, I was told not to go for a metal headgasket to do this as they leak, and to stick to the factory gasket.

Hi Adam32,

I get my stuff really cheap, if you want something then let me know and I'll get you a good price. My forged pistons, brand new, are only costing $1400, rather than $2800 for GREX pistons.

I can also get cheap clutches (twins etc), coilover suspension, intercoolers, radiators and much more.

Plus I can probably get you some of the Macka special racing slicks, helps you pull 12's in a 13 second car.

I won't give you money but I can probably save you a heap.

I have a couple mates who are importers, and one who does complying and builds race cars. The FMIC are going to be custom jobs which are bigger than GTR intercoolers and 75mm thick, I'll find out a price and hopefully take some photos.
